Wanted to share a shameful story on a experience I had on Lewisville today.

A quick disclaimer the actions of this one clown did not reflect what we saw as a whole on the water today. Most of the captains and their competitors were respectful and well guided by their captains.

Then you have the clown in question (late model Ranger Z521 with a Verado 250 and poles). Me and a friend were on a small point and had been there about half a hour when this Ranger pulls up about 100 yards away and sits playing with his electronics. He has one of his kids get on the trolling motor and moves towards the point across from the bay we were on the point of. They began working the banks while watching me and my friend. Within a couple of minutes of them being there I get bit and land a 2lb bass. A minute later my friend lands a 3lb bass. The captain and his team were a 100 yards away or less and see this. He then starts his motor and moves his kids right on top of me and my friend. I mean this guy got within 5 feet of my boat! When I said something he sat there dropping way points and didn't move for several minutes. I again asked them to move on and I didn't appreciate being driven right up on and they finally moved off.

If you are reading this sir. You are an absolute disgrace and are everything that is wrong with this sport. What is even more troubling is that you feel you actions were something that should be shown to the next generation of anglers.

I hope someone on here recognizes the description of your boat and reports you to the tournament director.

You should have turned him in. In person right then and there. Why wait? Why come in here and ask for someone else to do it for ya?

Just sayin.

How’d y’all do?

How do you know he was storing waypoints? Maybe he was switching views to see what's below him.

1. I was not in the tournament obviously and have no idea who I would report him to. Otherwise I would have.

2. I am no idiot and I was close enough to see exactly what he was doing. He was less than 5 feet from my boat doing it.

Ah. So he was just a general a-hole. Wish I knew the boat, I’d help. I have a couple friends that captained there today, I’ll ask around and see if they know the boat.

You should have offered to give the kids private fishing lessons in front of their “captain”. Lol.

Well, there was nothing special about the point we were on other than it had wind pushing bait on it and we weren't beating the bank like most of the other boats we saw on the lake. After the shock of someone being that sorry and stupid wore off we got a good laugh.

Imagine the kids getting in the boat and being told the game plan was to drive around and hope we see someone swing on a fish and hope they don't mind if we tie up to their boat and fish their spot with them. Lol! What a joke!

New 21ft Ranger with all bells and whistles and has to pot lick to find fishing spots!

I doubt anything would have been done about it anyways. We had a high school team pre fishing with their boat captain that saw another team fishing with a guide (for that particular lake) a week before the tournament. The guide was the boat captain's next door neighbor so this wasn't hearsay, he had known the guy for many years. Team was reported, they were asked about it at the weigh in and said no, they hadn't fished with a guide, and that was it. They finished 2nd in the tournament I believe and they didn't have the polygraph machine either. It seems unless it's on video or photos there's not much that's going to be done.

I’ve still got some 2oz sinkers left if you want to borrow some. They work well from 5ft away. 5ft, really? You really wanna give them a piece of your mind but is it really worth it with young kids in the boat? Shameful, most definitely. It’s the kids that have to pay for something like this. They’re learning that there’s nothing wrong with acting that way.

Anyone who knows me would have been shocked at my restraint. Normally it would have have gone down much differently I can assure you.

The kids were already in the boat with a world class fool. Me matching his stupidity wasn't going to do anyone any good. You can't beat sense or manners into someone (although I would love to try sometimes).

I'm sure the kids saw the anger and frustration on my face and in voice with what little I said and realized their captains actions were inappropriate. Then again he may the the father of one of them and being a world-class a--hole is his standard operating procedure.

roflmao

but seriously.. i fish with my 7 year old son, and every time we go fishing we are astounded by at least one act of someone being discourteous (or outright a holes). mostly it's not other fisherman.

So how do boat captains for high school teams work? teams have to find someone willing to volunteer their boat and time for these kids to compete? seems pickings may be thin. In any case, i hope the kids in the boat are shown that what he did was unacceptable and really, unnecessary. he didn't have to get that close just to mark waypoints..

If you have their TX numbers you can find out who it was and report it to the THSBA. Just make sure you take a pic or vid of it to back it up. These kids need correct teaching.

This. Next time take a pic of his boat numbers for reference and course of action.

A lot of those boat captains do not have a clue . There are dads buying boats on Friday afternoon so the kids can fish on Saturday morning.
