On out 15 acre lake it matters. For example last yr late winner/early spring they really wanted only 2 colors, rage craw falcon red and Googan Bandito Summer Green. as spring went on Rage Craw Falcon Red was preferred

I think it matters... you can fish a 100 yard bank line with one color worm and turn around and fish it with a different color... I mean that is saying something. But if the water is super clear the natural colors always work best.

I would say yes. Ran out of a color of a particular bait they were tearing up and was left with a different color. Wasn’t catching too many so I started hunting and found another package in the bottom of the box. Bass tore them up until they were all gone. Went back to the other color and bites were few and far in between.
But I have also fished with friends who are using the same bait I’m using with no luck. On one occasion I showed a friend my technique and explained how the bait reacts in the water with that technique. After that he caught as many fish as I did.

Why does a pink buble gum worm catch bass?
I was on a private lease for 10 years and you could catch 100 bass on the Bubblegum with Lemon Swirl Yum Dinger

Color absolutely matters! I've had days where my co-angler and I were stacked on fish. I was catching them, he wasn't. I thought we were throwing the same bait. Come to find out, my worm had red flake, his didn't. As soon as he started throwing the same worm, he got bit.
You need to understand the forage...I wouldn't throw a perch colored bait in waters that have no perch.

Color matters, I dont get to hung up on it but I have seen where we were worm fishing and had the same main color worm on but one had a color flake that the other didnt and it got bit while the other one didnt. Same exact worm too. That could be action difference between the two anglers. Let me clarify my opinion though as I'm not just being devil's advocate. I have WAY too much tackle in my boat and boat storage- probably 9-10 of the big rubbermaid crates that momma uses to store Christmas decorations worth stuffed to the top outside of the boat in storage and 5-6 mph worth of junk stuffed in the boat. With that said, I still buy tackle because nine times out of ten I'm fishing a soft plastic of some version of WM red, green pumpkin, or black on plastics. A couple colors of crankbaits, a couple colors of heavy blades, and a couple colors of swimbaits. That's literally 90+% of my fishing. All the years of buying different colors of baits has left me with a few tackle shop walls worth of bnib baits that we will probably never go through and I've given a lot away to high schoolers or we'd have more. When I met my partner 16 years ago I had a boat with 5-6 plano 3700s, two soft plastic wallets and 4-5 rod and reels. We now have all mentioned earlier and 32-35 rods rigged.............do we catch more big fish? Not really. "Keep it simple stupid" is something my dad preached way back when and I wish I would've listened to a bit more. He could take a couple packs of black creme 6" worms and outfish just about anyone.

I proved to myself that color matters sometimes while fishing for crappie. Using three different colors of jigs on a line, rearranging their position on line... did the same thing with scents years ago. I just assumed that if crappie had a preference at times that bass were likely in the same boat and never questioned it.

Sometimes color matters, sometimes not. I have been on a lake where they ate every color of worm I threw (I was making a point to a friend). I have also been on a clear lake where a watermelon seed was catching fish but other colors were not touched. The vast majority of the time it's action. My fishing partner and I each have distinctive default retrieves for soft plastics. Mine typically works better in warmer weather and his works better in colder weather. When we are fishing tournaments he is typically changing baits and colors while I'm working depth and structure/cover. We usually nail it down pretty quick. Seldom does color play a factor. It's usually the bait action and where the fish are staged.

I have a few thoughts on this...
I think color CAN be important...but it’s more situational than anything else.
I think action and size has more prevalence than anything else and here’s why I think that.
I don’t own livescope, but I’ve watched about every single video I could watch and one video I watched a guy was throwing a spoon and catching a few fish until they “quit biting”. Essentially he caught the fish that looked at that action and decided to make a meal out of it....he switched to a bladed bait with a different fall rate/action and fish from that same area committed to that bait.
Live scope also shows how many times fish swim right up to your bait and turn right back around. I believe as long as they can see the bait, it’s on us to provide them with the right action.
How many times have you reeled your worm or crank bait in for your next cast and it got slammed at the boat...wired2fish video showed a guy talking about swim bait fishing and trying to mimick the action of a Shad escaping to the surface to create a reaction bite....I crappie fish a ton and truly believe that actionand size of the jig is paramount...
Just my thoughts...

Of course it matters, there are so many colors in so many bait brands and many of us see them in the store and just have to buy them. We throw them on multiple days, different water colors, different times of the year, use them on different techniques, and never, or at least seldom, get bit. Then we throw plum worms, watermelon red baby brush hogs, watermelon magic, green pumpkin, and consistently catch fish in most all conditions. Then, we buy 5 more packs of chocolate sundae tree limb sour patch and don't get bit, AGAIN. But, the color SHOULD get me bit! As my 4 year old says, STUPID!

Pros have said that it matters with crank baits also. I have heard them say that if they are just swiping at the bait or just barely getting the rear hook then try the same crank bait in a different color. Can't remember if it was Jimmy Houston, KVD or Frittz.

Correct. Sometimes you can throw just about anything and they will bite it. Sometimes they are very picky.
