I’m curious who all is a big fan of the A rig. I’ve had one, but never gave it too much effort (I lost it on a line snap last time out).

I’m always hesitant on using since it’s expensive and I’m not sure what the best time and locations to use it (for largemouth). That and it weighs half a ton, so I feel like I’m launching canon balls into the water each time I throw it.

I like to throw it in cold clear water full of timber, make sure and use 65lb braid, when you get hung up just pull till you straighten the hook out, then once you get it back bend the hook back into place.

I do the same thing. When they are on it is a blast! I caught three at a time twice last winter. Several two at a time!

+1

I like using the Berkley swim baits because they are internally weighted, they don't tear up easily or slip down the hook and come in a 5 pack.

Interesting...I honestly thought this was mainly a spring or summer bait. Good to know.

It's effective-no doubt about that. But it's not a way I like to fish and I don't throw it anymore.

It'll still get bit fine during the summer on schooling and suspended fish, but there are easier to use cheaper to lose lures that will work as good or better during the warm season. It shines in the winter when no other moving baits are working. I wouldn't bother using it if your visibility is less than 2-3 feet though. And its productivity has dropped off substantially in the clear lakes as the fish have gotten a bit wiser to it. Still a must use in winter-early spring in clear lakes, but it's nothing like it was 5+ years ago.

It's at its best when you have to wear this many clothes minimum. [Linked Image]

It's on fire right now. Only going to get better as fall arrives.
