Just wondering.. I fish a Texas rig all the time. I fish the north end of Sam Rayburn most of the time. I’m either fishing brush piles, lay downs, cypress tree roots or stump and standing timber. Either way I’ve got to where I peg my weight with a rubber peg it 100% of the time. Back when I fished the south end of the lake” hydrilla “ beds I never pegged it. I started the pegging to help with hang ups. Just wondering what others are doing while fishing a Texas rig?

Pretty much the same thing. If it’s sticky stuff, I peg it. Pegging the weight helps to keep from getting the line stuck over limbs. In looser grasses, a free weight will let the bait float a little more on slack line. It also might get a fish or two more through the course of the day if the fish are shying from the weight of the sinker and dropping the bait real fast.

I peg if trying to penetrate heavy cover or grass, I don't if I am not. For some reason I feel like I get more bites on the fall if my weight hits first and the soft plastic flutters down slowly afterwards.

I rarely peg my weight, if I am fishing grass or very dense brush and cat tails I will peg it.

Teaching my wife how to fish a Texas rig and gave her a "hybrid" version-put a weight peg ABOVE the sliding weight and about 6 inches up from the worm. The worm still gets somewhat of a "gliding" motion and weight doesn't fall over one side of the branch with the worm on the other. She hasn't caught anything yet but that's a whole different story!

Always pegged. Even on my C-Rigs.

Sometimes I put on a stopper, then a weight, then another stopper, then tie on my hook. This creates a light version of a C-Rig or a "chicken rig". You can slide the weight up and down according to conditions.

Usually a single bobber stop, use both red and black, depending on the worm color I am using,
Other times I will free-weight and sometimes use a screw-lock worm weight but those are hard to find now.

I have done both and for me I haven't seen that it really matters in the areas that I fish. I always peg it when I am punching grass so the worm doesn't get hung up in the grass and only the weight is on bottom.

Curious as to why you would peg a C rig ?

Hate getting my weight on one side of a limb with the hook/lure on the other side.
Thick timber, thick vegetation always pegged.
