Show me a major motion picture that intentionally offends more groups than Blazing Saddles. The opening railroad scene offends Asians with a racial slur, calls the inhabitants of a major US city homosexuals and implies a certain race is less valuable than a hand cart.

Brooks was truly gifted at offending everyone.

It was just the general vibe of those old movies, and the prevailing attitude of the times. If you weren't a white,Christian male you were a second-rate citizen and prone to be reminded of that at any time during the movie. Watch them carefully and you'll see it. All those old movies were rife with misogyny, racism, bad vices, homophobia, xenophobia, etc.

That was politically correct for the time, but times have changed and it hasn't aged well.

Blazing Saddles was satire, Gone With The Wind wasn't.

Blazing Saddles and History of the World. Mel Brooks was Great!

Maybe because Brooks chose to do comedy instead of drama there were more "opportunities" (for lack of a better word) to offend people? I'm not sure. It's been many years since I watched Blazing Saddles,I'll have to take another look. I do remember the exaggerated stereotypes.

one of the original "Sanfiord and Son" tv shows used the 'N" word....it was a court room scene with a black judge and courtroom full of blacks waiting to appear before the judge......fred sanford complained to the judge about getting a traffic ticket and made a comment "there's enough "N.....s" in here to make a Tarzan movie, how come you don't give whites tickets" (or words to that effect)....
I saw a re=run of this episode several years later and they had removed the "tarzan movie" comments....

Mel Brooks didn’t write or direct it, but plays the character Mr. Forget it.

Do you remember when Obama was in office and a black comedian said that "we have our first [censored] in the White House"? But that was okay because it was a black saying it. That's what they call themselves and think of themselves as, but they don't want anyone else to. What absolute fools.

Went and watched "The Hateful Eight" at the theater. Numerous people got up and walked out.
