If you go for spots you will catch Largemouth, smallmouth, and maybe something else. Just go to a lake that has spotties, find rocks, and throw a finesse worm and say " I do not want to catch a spottie!" You are going to jinx yourself. Grapevine has some.. Heck, I caught my first smallmouth on GP about a month ago. Well, it was only about 10" long, but I was happy.. Good Luck...

I’ve been catching some 16†plus spots on Grapevine. Slow bite but I’m catching bigger smallmouths and spots than largemouths the last few weeks

Caught this fish in the Mountain Fork river just above the re-regulation dam. Still not sure if it was a true river spot or just a largie had some spot patterns but really big for a spot. I had caught several spotted bass though on that same stretch more spots than largemouth for sure. I may never know but I want to think it was a spotted bass. Aaaaaa, the Mountain Fork. I have fished/paddled the Lower Mountain Fork before the Upper is whole different world. While the upper river is a pretty seasonal stream due to often inadequate water for a good float trip during dry times that river above Broken Bow has more smallmouth bass than I have encountered anywhere. We caught literally 100’s of smallies on a couple of three day float trips up there.

In California the same trout dinners that grow such huge largemouth bass also grow some ridicules spots. If we had spots like these I bet those that cuss the spotted bass in Texas would be a little more tolerant of them? 🤔😂

Beast! I've fished the Coosa River chain of lakes and have caught some monster spots, but I can't even imagine how that fish fought.

Houston County is full of them! Used to. I haven't caught a big spot or any big number of spots in years. I caught a spot on county back in mid 2000s that weighed 4.64 on one scale and 4.58 on another scale. Go figure the marina wasn't open to get it certified on their scales.
I can backlash toilet paper.

Those Cali spots are absolutely insane. Love to catch one of those. The CA locals have dubbed them "Magnum Spots" they are insanely overgrown and appear to be the apex predators on the lakes.

Buddy caught this one on Texoma a few years back in the Bass Champs Championship. At the time I was certain it was a spot due to its smaller mouth and rough patch on the tongue but it does have large mouth looks to it.
