Buddy and I went to Naconiche this past Sunday and caught quite a few small ones. The larger one got knocked off by his poor lack of knowledge of locking in the retractable net. LOL! I just want to give my forum friends out there some friendly advice. We saw three different trees that had red wasp nests attached to them and they were so big they would throw out a canopy of shade! Okay, maybe not quite that large. The three nests we saw were a minimum of 12-14 inches in diameter and were completely covered with those mean hombres. The first one we saw is just off the boat run on Naconiche creek before you get to the bridge. This happens to be in an area where there is an abundance of shad and schoolies gone wild! Be careful! The other two were in close proximity to each other and were just to the left of the main lake point as you leave the boat ramp. My son must carry an epipen as he is allergic to certain foods and insect stings. If the wrong person bumps into one of these trees it could result in a trip to the emergency room. I fished Fork when it first opened and experienced a little bit of this but not to this extent. Please be mindful of this as I sincerely do not want to see anybody get hurt out there. Tight Lines!

Sounds like a job for a good can of wasp spray, a guy in a rain suit and someone on the big motor ready to get out of there in a hurry. We ran into several wasp nest on Tawakoni in a tourney several years back after it filled up after the drought. Every other willow tree had one and there are a LOT of willows. Luckily we never got any of them fired up.

You should've seen them when the lake first opened and was full of trees and brush. They were everywhere

I've heard Fork had bad nests like this when if first filled up, something about a new lake and the habitat is displaces

I got stung about 10 times when my grandpa bumped into a cedar tree drifting in the jon boat. Then he had to pull about 6 or 7 times to get the 9.9 merc cranked to back me outta there. That was a long 6 or 7 pulls!

Back in the day, we fished the Neches and Angelina rivers in john boats and one of our favorite passtimes was to run under those overhanging willow trees that had those big nests and whack them with a paddle as we ran under them. That was 40+ years ago and usually alcohol fueled but I still chuckle when I think back. Misspent youth at it's best.

I'm allergic to wasp stings. A nest of that size would definitely send me to meet God very quickly.

30 plus years ago fishing with my grandfather on Palestine. He grabbed a dead tree branch, and it broke from the three. There was a nest inside, and wasp were every where. We both ended up in the water and had to swim the boat away from the tree before we could get back in. We both got stung several times

This post brought back a memory of fishing with my grandad as a kid In Arkansas. One day we came up on a nest about a 1 1/2 feet off the water. There were bass swirling underneath that would come up and hit the wasps that got too close to the surface. If I remember correctly, he caught a good one on a Baby Torpedo Had to have been over 40yrs ago. Good times.......
