There were fish present on first screen. It appears that your idea worked. My thoughts are to continue in order to establish a measurable pattern. Fish on screen, no fish on screen, ambush areas with or without bait present, drifting vs spot lock etc...

I am going to make my own sound files, with different speeds. And try it again. By the way, the speaker was in the water. Thats why it was in a ziplock bag. I was just curios if anybody had tried it before.

Keep trying and you may discover something. The process is fun.
I bought a $65 water proof Bluetooth speaker and recorded several low and high thumping sounds but it didn't call in much for me. This was about 5 years ago and in January. I believe its both the sound and vibration of the boat's hull that carries the sound deep. That's my best guess. Keep on experimenting and report back. Thanks.

I used a metronome bluetoothed to my boat stereo. You can adjust the tone - click, wood block, snare drum, etc.- as well as the speed and volume. Not sure how it compares to a thumper since I've never used one. But it kept fish in the area.

This is similar to the hydrowave. The hydrowave gives you a bunch of different sounds that imitate different prey species. If you buy the extra chip of more sounds then you get a thump. It’s a little steeper than the Bluetooth speaker you mention. In my view the thumper creates vibrations more than sound. People put them in compartments to muffle the sounds but the vibrations are what bring the fish in. Try your Bluetooth speaker for 10 minutes and try tapping an oar or net handle against the bottom of your boat to see which one is more effective...
Many people who have bought thumpers from me (including guides) were just tired of tapping on the boat!

Me and mason tried that with youtube sound clips with various BPM. Seemed to work for us, buy the redneck hammer machine we made sure is noticable at a distance. Our Bluetooth speaker did suprisingly well. Deeper the sound the better. Mason jumped in the water and said it was hard to hear the high sounds.

The Bluetooth speaker idea sounds like an interesting concept so much so that I think I'll give it a try this weekend. I've recorded a few different beats and put each in a loop in order to experiment to see which if any works better than the others. Here is a list of the sounds that I feel have some real potential and I plan on comparing first: the drum solo from In-A-Godda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly the drum solo from In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins the drum solo from Hot for Teacher by Van Halen the drum solo from Wipe Out by The Ventures And as a control to this experiment, I've got the following two songs in their full version that I will also try out: Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus
Trying out that many sounds and giving each a fair chance might take me the whole weekend, but I've got plenty of social distancing time on my hands. Besides, I think the information that I gather from this experiment could be valuable for my thesis paper should I decide to go back to college in my 60's. Anyhow I'll be in the boat with the AC/DC cranked up, so if you hear me out on the water this weekend stop by and I'll let you know how my experiment is going. Who knows, I might even let you tie up behind me!
