I will be at Sam Rayburn at Jackson Hill. I have never been on that area of the lake and want to go to Veach from there but have no idea of a safe route. I know there are 2 ways to do it but with the lake down 3 foot not sure which one is the safest to try. The 2 routes I know about are either down on the backside of the forest or on the other side around behind an island by Harvey. With the lake down so much can some of you Rayburn guys give me some input on which one I should try to use? I have no idea as I have never been up on that end of the lake. I have fished Veach several times but always getting there from the other end of the lake. Any input is appreciated here to get me under the bridge and to Veach.
Thanks for your help

If you don't know the fastest way I would run around the forest.

I suggest purchasing Lance Vick's boat lanes for Rayburn. www.boatlanes.com It has all of the safe routes up and down the lake.

To answer your question, you can run either side of the forest to get to Veach. Going from Jackson Hill, there is no need to cross the lake though. Just stay on the same side of the lake, go to the bridge, then run between Bird Island and the shore (follow the channel on your Navionics or Lakemaster card). Once you get clear of the island, just stay to the left side and you'll be fine.

Again, the boat lanes will help you out a lot.

youtube ken smith videos running rayburn from 10 years ago or so. it's really eye opening. the obvious answer is hang around the 147 long enough to grab a boat and follow. there is a short cut behind bird island i ran yesterday that takes you to the mouth of harvey and from there just stay 100 yds or so off the bank and it's a a straight shot to veach. other wise follow the boat lanes chip. i have it and followed it with no negative reports.

You need to be careful following another boat though.. I have watched people run through places I would never ever think about running! Some people just run.

Just trim it high and throttle down!

Separate subject: any recommendations for a good fiberglass shop in Southeast Texas? cheers
