Ye olde wise ones of the OT. Anyone familar with the area? Is the fishing any good? I'm looking to buy a small chunk of land in the area in hopes of making me a private fish camp. Just wondering if there are any things I should be weary of.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone could offer.

Thanks guys. Are chupacobras any good to eat? And yes, I saw the Day Tripper show too (I love that show!!!!). I use to live in Victoria so I am some what familar with the area. But I must admit I only drove through Palacios on my way to Houston. I have been looking in the Rock Port area but Palacios looks attractive too. Not only is there a pretty extensive bay system around there, Lake Texana and Coleto Creek are pretty close too. So I can hopfully enjoy some nice inshore salt water fishing and have access to some good fresh water fishing too. It also looks like a quite little town, no railroads that go through the area nor any major airports.

We stayed at “the crab trap”... private home and pier. They had a huge green bulbed spot light to shine in the water. One of the best fishing trips I’ve done.. pm me if needed

You will be on Matagorda Bay. Very busy on weekends due to proximity to Htown. Its awesome otherwise for fishing. Enjoy.

Not a bad place. I spent some time there in the early 90’s with a girl I met in college. Seemed like a low key laid back atmosphere.

A friend of mine lives there. Nice and quiet place. the Vietnamese shrimpers don’t like it when white folks try to start a shrimping operation there, and have allegedly, in my opinion, torched a few shrimp boats owned by outsiders.
The Tres Palacios Oaks is a great bar. I’ve never been able to get cut off there.

Thanks again guys!!! This does help!! The more I did some reasearch on the place over the weekend the more I am attracted to it. Mainly just reading the web and watching videos. But I wanted to see if any real people had any real experiences they may want to add. I have been shopping Rock Port for years now (I'm in no hurry on this purchase) and I love that area but it is getting more crowded (plus expensive!). But the quiet semi remotness of Palacios is what I like. I want to buy this place as a weekend camp for me and anyone that wants to join me (just camping for now, it has access to electric, water and sewage but I will need to get them installed...but again no hurry). It'll be a primitive camp for awhile with the hopes of building it up as a private campsite with full hookups and a utility shed (just for me and freinds) with the long term goal of maybe making it a retirement place for me.

More people would live there if it was easier to pronounce.
