Well this past Saturday my son and I went fishing and I should of know it was going to be a bad day from the go but I just cant take a hint. So we wake up and head out around 5am we were on our way to Millers Creek Res and about 10miles from the house then boom had a blow out on the trailer. Got it swapped out real quick but decided to go to Waurika Lake in Oklahoma since it is closer to the house. I had another back up spare with me but its not in the best shape and didnt want to chance it being that Millers is 1.5hrs away. We get to the lake and catch bait quick but struggled finding the fish. We didn't get on them until about 1130am then it was one after another drifting in 25ft of water. Well we decided to do one more drift and I started our FaceBook Live feed as I do when Im out fishing and in just a few minutes they starting biting. Well my son hooks up one then I had another rod go down. We are reeling them in but mine gets off. He has his to the boat with a mess of other lines that it crossed. So I net it and get it on board. I take the hook out which that line is entangled in others and BAAM! a big take down on another rod that is entangled with all the others. As that happens the tangled mess gets pulled and that 8/0 gammy circle hook goes right into my thumb like a hot knife in butter!!! My son retrieved a bait knife and we were able to cut the line on the hook. While waiting that line was still getting pulled by the blue on the other end. After we cut the line, I hand lined the fish in and we took a few pics of the 2 that we just caught. We through back the ones we were holding after a few pics then we loaded everything up and headed out. I attempted to remove the hook myself but could not get it to punch through the skin. I dropped my son and the boat off at home and then went to the ER where they were able to remove. This all happened in seconds but once thing that I know I will do for now on is where a knife that is attached to my belt for easy access for emergencies. The thumb is good and is barely sore the day after. If you click on the link its the last 40secs of the feed where it happens. https://www.facebook.com/tipupreeldown/videos/236518967777583/ ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66591-20200912_174302.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66592-20200912_180437.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66593-20200912_182453.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66594-20200912_182643.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66595-20200913_110935.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66596-img_20200913_222620_774.jpg)

Been there more than once in a half a century of fishing. Those hooks are tough to get out when they are resting on the bone. it is good that you didn’t have extensive damage.

Doesn't matter how many times you wash your hands after using bait, those dang shad scales stick to you like glue.

So that's how a circle hook works. At least the fishing was good.

This is the 3rd time to have a hook in me. 1st time with being a big circle. Last year I had a cat fin broke off in my forearm. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-5316-66873-screenshot_20200914_061717.png)

Finned many times, one I had to cut out with a knife, and one Rapala hanging from my earlobe. I managed to cut the hook off with some dikes, and I tried to get it out myself but the ER won out, I just wasn’t man enough.
Glad yours didn’t get a tendon.
