Caught a solid 8 pound female today on 10 inch worm. She had the hook deep. Bled some. I didn’t want to try to remove the hook as I was sure damage would occur, so I cut the line as close to the hook eye as possible and quickly released her. I was using a wide gap wire style hook. In anyone’s experience, do you think she survived? I heard long ago that fish enzymes will eventually dissolve hooks? Any input?

Very good chance she will make it. Only thing for sure is what you did gives her the best chance at making it so good job on that.

Caught 4+ fish today and the eye of the hook was down her throat and hook broke in half Seems she was caught About week or longer.had one almost 5 caught earlier in the year that also had a hook down her throat and it was starting to rust out. So she probably will survive I would give her about 85-90% chance!

Have caught fish with a hook on its anus and one with a hook in its gut that actually made a hole in it like a doughnut.

Was she bleeding from the throat or gills/tongue? In my experience, the gut hooked fish have a better chance than gill/tongue hooked

Caught a fish last summer that was bleeding pretty good, remembered pouring some carbonated drink over the fish. Couldn't remember which but got my coke .poured some down his chops and it absolutely stopped the bleeding. Don't release a bleeder without treating with soda. I have spoke.

I have cleaned a lot of big bass with hooks in their gut. They were just fine.

Your best bet would've been to put her in livewell with aerators running fully and administer rejuvenate or please release me. Let her stop bleeding and then go through gills and turn hook up or out and simply pop it out and back through gills. Then, assess her. She prolly be roaring and ready to swim away.

Same here. I carry small bottles of Mountain Dew in my boat and they work. If I remember right, a biologist said it's the citric acid that helps with clotting.

Caught a 3.5 lb spot on Alan Henry a few weeks ago on a 10" power worm. She swallowed the hook as well. I went through the gills and removed the hook and there was zero bleeding. I released her right away and she darted off quickly.

About 5 minutes later she came to the surface and quickly turned belly up. I trolled up to her and she was dead.
