When The Winds Are Right This System Will Work!

Several anglers asked me how i set-up my rig for drift baiting. Also known as ballooning. Basically you replace your weight for a float & depending on depth increase or decrease the length of your leader line. That's it. I prefer using live crab. Actually any live or dead bait will do. For hooks i try to use a slightly smaller hook in size ratio to my bait so it doesn't take away from how it's displayed. Circle hooks are my choice. In fact thick "ringed" Mustad Circle Hooks to be precise.

The predator should focus on the bait, not a big shiny hook. Using this method will result in either large predatory fish, or nothing at all. Smaller sized fish won't exposed them selfs in the open like a large predator would. Crabs are my choice of bait. But i do bring a 2pc bait pole to catch small fish species if needed. Also if no live bait can be found using previously frozen fish, shrimp or squid will do. During the day i mostly catch Cudas & by night it's mostly Sharks. Jacks are a plus.
