At UPS DFW airport waiting on delivery truck to be finished loading. A couple drivers heard the horrific news on the radio on the way in. Announcement was made to leave immediately with partially loaded trucks and plan not to come back to airport after we finished deliveries, call in first. Airport was deathly quite with all aircraft grounded. as I drove out of the building onto the ramp I heard the unmistakable sound of fighters coming in hot. 2 dove down toward the runway and throttled back making a slow pass down the length of the runway in front of me and then climbed and circled back around as I watched a large solid white jet preparing for takeoff. I later learned it was Red Cross with a go team headed for NYC with a coworker of mine onboard. As the jet took off the fighters were on each side of it as escorts.

At one of my morning deliveries a lady was freaking out, her husband was scheduled to be working in one of the towers that morning and she could not reach him on the phone. She had a couple of kids with her and the TV on. I had her call a friend to come sit with her and waited till they arrived before I left. I never found out the outcome....

Several times during the day as I delivered in Frisco and Little Elm fighters made very low passes clearing small aircraft from small local runways around the lake that had not received the word. At the end of the day I received word that we could come back to DFW and we might have a military escort on property back to the building. Several fighters were on the ramp fueling next to our building with military surrounding each plane.

I'll never forget that terrible day.

The middle of Eastman Chemical in Longview..

Let's just say a good hit there would have killed 10 times as many people if not 100 times more.

They locked it down like Fort Knox.

Taking. A welding test at a BP Amaco plant in Ignacio, Co. The testing inspector came and told me something happened but didn’t know what so he let me finish testing. When I got finished testing after lunch I went back to the rv Park in Durango and found out what happened where my wife had the tv on watching the news. We just had one cell phone we shared at the time. How that changed everything and brought our nation together.

I was living in Hollywood FL, getting ready for work when I got a call from coworker to turn on tv. First plane had already crashed as live reports came in. A few minutes later the second plane hit. Call from office to stay home came next... was in the travel business. As shocking as it was to watch it got even more shocking when I realized a few days later I'd seen Atta and his buddies at Shuckums bar earlier in the week. I lived three blocks from the bar and Young Circle, and while jogging around Young Circle that Friday, early evening, had walked in to bar that day to take a leak. Didn't notice them as I entered the bar as it was already busy around 6 p.m., but glanced to my left and saw an animated Atta, speaking to waitress as I was leaving. Maybe I'm racists but that booth of middle easterners were the only folks I remember in the place and Atta's is not a face that you forget. When news and pics of all of those involved were published in Miami newspaper... I picked the guy out immediately.

When I was in south Florida fishing earlier this year, I took a walk around Young Circle as it was my evening hangout for many years. Stayed at a motel 2 blocks from where Shuckums used to be... lots of great memories and one bad one.

Shuckums was located where the car in pic is.

I was probably one of the last people in the nation to find out about the attack. I was still on active duty and had drawn a Colorado Mountain Goat permit and took leave for the entire season. So I was on a backpacking hunt in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area near Buena Vista, CO. I shot my billy on Sept 12 and after I got him packed out and broke camp I headed back to town on Sept 16. That's when i found out about it, when I stopped to get ice at a gas station and saw the headlines.

I was on active duty as a flight Medic in my TMC (Troop Medical Clinic). It was like watching the Challenger Crash live all over again. The clinic just stopped functioning as everyone stared at the Screen in the waiting room. In the years to come I have treated numerous soldiers who were in the Pentagon when it was hit. Since then I have been on Ft Hood during the 2 major shootings, lost a friend to one and have treated many of the survivors.

God bless those directly impacted and anyone who served in any capacity (e.g. military, fire, rescue, medics...etc.) during those events!

For me, I’ve never been successful at adequately conveying to the younger generation exactly what that event, and those times, were like. I’ve never walked away from one of those conversations feeling like they absolutely understood. (Zero disrespect toward any of them.) May be the epitome of the cliche “You had to be there.” It’s also amazing how fast life has flown by...to have an entire generation with no experiential concept of those events. To me it still feels relatively recent.

I do like what Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer said about it, and I think it gets to the heart of what CCTX commented. Dakota said: “I would never wish for another 9/11 but I would give anything for a 9/12”

Never Forget

I was working downtown(Houston) @the Enron 2 building and I was doing Telecommunication wiring/Phone switch installations/Video on the 3rd floor. It was a dedicated floor for UBS Energy trading. It had about 200 or so flat screen TVs broadcasting CNN, Stock market channels and all of a sudden I hear some crying and looked up just as the 1st building was damaged. Not long after, the second. 10 minutes after, we were evacuated and as I was walking to my car, there were 7-8 armed guards around the perimeter of the building strapped with assault weapons. My Ex wife worked across town near the juice box so I hustled over there and watched some more footage of the tragedy for a few minutes and made a decision to get my wife to leave and I raced back home and got my 2 kids out of daycare. I had a coworker who said his grandparents did volunteer work in building 2 and he left immediately. Never saw him again.

I will never forget, but I remember telling people that, in five years, many people will forget and that the liberals will be defending the muslims at every turn. Sad to say that I was right.

I was in a meeting in Virginia Beach VA when someone told us we needed to watch the TV. We couldn't believe what was happening or understand it at the time, but we knew something had to done about it. Years later, due to the nature of my work I got a phone call from former United States Marine Corps general and former Commander in Chief of the United States Central Command Anthony Zinni. It was enlightening.

GDR_11 - You paint with a broad brush. Defending Muslims is different from supporting terrorists. Sad to say you seem to have forgotten there were innocent Muslims killed in the towers that day, and right afterwards some Muslims were there as first responders. In addition, along with monetary donations, many US Islamic organizations launched blood drives and provided medical assistance, food, and shelter for victims. Also, a Muslim in Pakistan provided the location of Bin Laden which ultimately led to the raid that killed the infamous terrorist.
