I think the writing was on the wall at Petty, but there aren’t a lot of landing spots out there for him. Opportunities for a mid pack driver could develop, but I don’t see much out there that would be an upgrade from Petty.

Since it appears he was offered some ownership to stay at petty and at least one other team is interested he will come up a big winner in this.

Do you think he may end up like kaperdick? If so I can see the law suits rolling against Petty and all other owners. Even though he made the decision to leave.

Petty was struggling for sponsorship in 2019 and were saved by World Wide Technology. They are not in much better shape regarding sponsorship now. A stake in ownership of the team was overrated. Wallace seems to me to be a wildcard with opportunities ranging from very little to possibly landing at Ganassi. My opinion is, there are a lot of young drivers out there and Wallace really doesn’t distinguish himself in the crowd.

That was my exact thought, he just kapernicked himself. I guess Nike will pick him up

Haven't ever watched a whole race . . . . . other things to do . . . .

Used to enjoy football, golf, hockey when the local OTA stations carried them, but now on a fixed income and find other things to do that don't cost $$$ to sit and watch.

T-man - sent you a PM . . . . . let me know if you have any questions, OK?

God Bless !

Wallace signed sponsorship deals with Beats by Dre headphones, DoorDash and Columbia Sportswear in the last few months. He signed a deal with Kingsford Charcoal yesterday. He takes those deals with him to whatever team he signs with.

Believe the only personal sponsorship deals he has is the Beats sponsorship. Door dash, Columbia, and Kingsford are for the #43 car this season. They could extend....maybe not.

looks like the Columbia deal stays with him in 2021 no matter where he goes.

It's not nearly as long as it sounds. It's actually rather short - they just race it in circles over and over.

RPM is near the bottom of the barrel. If you have any kind of backing, someone will take you. I'm sure hes backers found him a better gig.

I could see him ending up in the #42 car at Ganassi. I don’t think Kenseth will be around after the season is over. Wallace is a place filler. If Ganassi signs him, I hope it is no more than 1 or 2 years. I might fill the space with Wallace until Haley Deegan is ready.

When I raced, the ones who stayed in the back and was in the was when you tried to lap them were called “and also” drivers.

Is the rest of NASCAR still pushing his car around the speedway since he was so dramatically traumatized from a piece of rope.

Good Riddance to him and to NASCAR

She has a *long* way to go before she proves herself at anything remotely close to a Cup level ride.

Look a Floon dropping some stock car knowledge. roflmao

Bubba isn't going away, RPMS is going broke that's why he's not buying in. He will end up with a fat contract and probably partial ownership from another organization, just because of the color of his skin.

Just saw this reported:

NBA icon Michael Jordan is starting a NASCAR team with Denny Hamlin and his first driver is Bubba Wallace.

Hope it works out better for Jordan than his unsuccessful attempt at AMA Superbike racing. Jordans bikes looked great, his trucks looked great, and his riders looked great. Problem was they tried to go to the track with a mediocre black rider and in 5 or 6 years, they never won a race. Maybe he learned some things.

ARCA just isn't what it used to be when it comes to the depth of talent and being a driver proving ground. There are some concrete reasons for that, and the pandemic didn't help, but she isn't proving anything right now, and I don't really see the environment for her to learn and develop further there.

She has the funding, and Ford is clearly behind her. Why not stick her in a truck ride? The field is much more competitive, and with the lack of secondhand cars right now to field in ARCA, you can put a truck out on the track for about the same budget.

I think she has a legitimate shot to end up in the Cup Series one day, but the thought of dropping her in the 14 - a top ride - next season is crazy talk.

OI thought it was interesting that he referred to his fans as 'simple minded".

Well 30 years ago I could name all the drivers and the # they had. Today I can only name Bubba Wallace and 43.... so great, bad , or average he stays in the news.

I can tell you the F1 grid, but not there #s. I'm not that fanatical.

I guess I am missing something here. How is a start up one car team any better than the Petty Motorsports ride with partial ownership? Believe me, Michael Jordan is not The White Knight arriving to save the day. He is Michael Jordan expanding his brand. If it works life will be great. If he loses interest he will be gone like he did With his Superbike team.

Jordan's net worth is $2.2B. King Richard's is $65M. That could be the something your missing.

I could be wrong and we can revisit the successes or failures in a few years. You never know, but I believe I’ve seen this story before. You can be assured, Michael Jordan is writing checks with other people money, not his.

They are Hoping to attract new fans to the sport with the fans comes big $ sponsors. It is not so important to win as it is to compete.

Jordan will get tired of spending his or other people's money, when other people stop giving it to him. A one car startup team has no chance at anything but running around burning money in 25th-35th place. Anybody remember Hall of Fame Racing? Aikman and Staubach had their names on it. Lasted less than two years. That's where this Jordan effort will end up.

Have to agree with you. It is Jordan’s history. As far as new fans and new sponsors, that works for a year or two. It is all about winning. Sponsors and fans don’t support cars getting lapped by winners.

Considering his experience and success in Cup, I wonder why Denny Hamlin is a partner in this. He must not know what he's doing.

It is a little different today with the charter system. They were constantly struggling to meet the top 35 season point mark back in the HoF days, which after the first season (when Troy and Roger sold out), I'm pretty sure they constantly failed to do until the team folded. (I don't remember off the top of my head, but I'm sure they were doing like everyone back then and buying and trading points to make races.) With a charter these days, it can be possible to stay financially afloat and not consistently run up front. It will allow the Jordan team to still get paid, lock in a sponsor, and if nothing else buy them a couple years to get everything sorted out.

They've also got an alliance with JGR, so that could go either way (ask Bob Leavine how that worked out - not great), but it does open them up to good equipment. Of course, Joe picks pit crews on these deals usually, so that will put them with Joe's 5th best pit crew at best. The difference here between Bob's JGR alliance and the one Jordan/Hamlin are forming with Gibbs might be the ability of Jordan/Hamlin to gain sponsor dollars that LFR was just unable to attract.

Personally, I think it'll work out. Hamlin's involvement is pretty noteworthy. Don't forget what a dog the Haas team was until Stewart came on board.

...but maybe it won't. This is a difficult game to get into the way it is structured. It's very difficult to get into and stay competitive and financially viable.

I mentioned Bob Leavine up above. Remember that Barney Visser had the same alliance with Joe, and like Bob Leavine, Joe's tab ran Barney out of the sport...right after Barney scored a season championship. That says something.

I think the ultimate key to the team's success is how well they can leverage the Jordan name and brand to attract sponsorship. The hardest working people I know are the guys that sell these sponsorships. I wouldn't do that job for anything. I'd sooner move up to Alaska and attempt to forage for food through winter to survive - it'd be easier. That said, if they can do that well, I think they can attract the talent, get the results, pay their bills, and make it work.

Losing a big time sponsor like 5-Hour Energy and JG increasing your operating cost by 300% would be tough to overcome for any single car team. Gibbs comes off as a super nice guy and I'm sure he is but he is one cutthroat businessman.
