Just saw this reported:
NBA icon Michael Jordan is starting a NASCAR team with Denny Hamlin and his first driver is Bubba Wallace. So I guess Bubba is going to hang around for a while longer? This is wise financial decision by all those involved.

This team will give Kyle Busch someone else to complain about next year.

Well 30 years ago I could name all the drivers and the # they had. Today I can only name Bubba Wallace and 43.... so great, bad , or average he stays in the news.

I guess I am missing something here. How is a start up one car team any better than the Petty Motorsports ride with partial ownership? Believe me, Michael Jordan is not The White Knight arriving to save the day. He is Michael Jordan expanding his brand. If it works life will be great. If he loses interest he will be gone like he did With his Superbike team.

You can be assured, Michael Jordan is writing checks with other people money, not his.

Jordan will get tired of spending his or other people's money, when other people stop giving it to him. A one car startup team has no chance at anything but running around burning money in 25th-35th place. Anybody remember Hall of Fame Racing? Aikman and Staubach had their names on it. Lasted less than two years. That's where this Jordan effort will end up.

It is all about winning. Sponsors and fans don’t support cars getting lapped by winners.

Considering his experience and success in Cup, I wonder why Denny Hamlin is a partner in this. He must not know what he's doing.

A one car startup team has no chance at anything but running around burning money in 25th-35th place. Anybody remember Hall of Fame Racing? Aikman and Staubach had their names on it. Lasted less than two years. That's where this Jordan effort will end up. It is a little different today with the charter system. They were constantly struggling to meet the top 35 season point mark back in the HoF days, which after the first season (when Troy and Roger sold out), I'm pretty sure they constantly failed to do until the team folded. (I don't remember off the top of my head, but I'm sure they were doing like everyone back then and buying and trading points to make races.) With a charter these days, it can be possible to stay financially afloat and not consistently run up front. It will allow the Jordan team to still get paid, lock in a sponsor, and if nothing else buy them a couple years to get everything sorted out. They've also got an alliance with JGR, so that could go either way (ask Bob Leavine how that worked out - not great), but it does open them up to good equipment. Of course, Joe picks pit crews on these deals usually, so that will put them with Joe's 5th best pit crew at best. The difference here between Bob's JGR alliance and the one Jordan/Hamlin are forming with Gibbs might be the ability of Jordan/Hamlin to gain sponsor dollars that LFR was just unable to attract. Personally, I think it'll work out. Hamlin's involvement is pretty noteworthy. Don't forget what a dog the Haas team was until Stewart came on board.
