I've fished the Zbone side by side with my NRX. Sorry Kistler guys, it ain't in the same territory. IMO the Zbone falls somewhere between GLX and IMX

Everyone uses the NRX as a benchmark for comparison. That alone should tell you

Do they use it as a benchmark to justify how much they paid, or are they really 2 - 3 times better than the rest? I bought an NRX 894 this year. Great rod, but in my opinion not worth the extra money. When I bought my first IMX 25 years ago at Barlows it was the first rod I ever paid over $100 for. And at THAT time Gloomis had a tremendous difference and advantage in both weight and sensitivity. Since the world market has emerged and new players are in the game I think the gap has narrowed considerably. But hey, if ya got it and ya want it...it's your money and I'm happy for those who can afford to buy one! I doubt I'll buy another one. Just my 2 cents on it.

I'll say this about the NRX. I believe it's superior to anything currently on the market, in terms of sensitivity and weight. That being said, it's price far exceeds it's value. The only reason I have one, is because my sweet wife thought I deserved them and bought me 5 G.Loomis rods for a retirement gift. They are not $350 better than a Shimano Zodias or Expride. If all my rods were stolen/destroyed today, I don't think I'd ever spend over $300 on a rod again. Most likely I'd try to stay around the $200 point +/- a little bit. Rods have become so damn good these days that there's plenty of sub $150 rods that will pretty much meet any need that any of us will ever have. I realize this has very little to do with actual need. I can go buy a $200 rod/reel and over the course of the year, not catch one fish less or miss a bite.

I have both Z-Bone and NRX rods. The Z-Bone is by far a much better rod and if you watch the site you can get a deal!

The funny thing about price and value is in the results. If you are fishing a big money tournament and feel/catch that winning bass then the fact that you paid over $500 becomes relative. The win justifies the price. Years ago I bought a Kistler LTA and used that rod extensively throughout my bass club season. I know I felt and caught fish that I would not have using anything else I owned at the time and eventually won club angler of the year. So for me the "value" was in the extra fish caught and justified any "extra" price paid. I can respect people not wanting to spend the money an NRX might cost but I value the return one can get from owning a high end piece of equipment as well.

As far as the NRX/Z-Bone debate I cannot speak to that but I have usually found that sensitivity is a personnel value that only using the rod of choice can answer for me. Good luck in your choice.

I will say after today with a new NRX and shimano metanium mgl 150B this is by far the most sensitive combo I have ever fished with.

Is a Mercedes 2-3 times better then a Cadillac?
Nothing wrong with having nice things if you can afford them.

Yep, just like I said. It's your money. Just for me I don't see the "feel" difference" equate to the value. But, that's me. I have one but probably won't buy another. Just a matter of opinion, and you know what they say about those!

Agreed

To the gentleman above that said if all his stuff got stolen he wouldn't spend over $300 for another new rod.

Not trying to argue your point about a rod being worth over $300 but I will offer this. I own Conquests, NRX's, & GLX's. Last spring I bought a new Expride because it felt so good in the store. I spooled up one of my good reels with 20# Seaguar and tied on a 3/4 oz FBJ. After a half dozen casts out to 20' of water, I realized I had made a mistake.

The moral of the story: It is easy to go up in rank. If you are accustomed to an NRX or Conquest and you go backwards to an Expride you notice a difference right away. This is not a slam on the Expride. It is a great rod. It just isn't the same caliber of an NRX or Conquest. Unless you fish them side by side, same bait, same line, you would never notice the difference.

By the way, some of you know my opinion on "Need"

There is nothing about bass fishing that has anything to do with "Need" wink

I agree. I have stated that many times, "need" has nothing to do with it. It all comes down to what we "want".

I disagree, everybody needs an NRX. (Or two)
