Hey yall, ill start off with saying i do plan to bring my boat to a glass shop i just have not had the time to do it yet with work and was hoping to hear some of yalls thoughts on it.

I have a 2005 zx225 and when i really shake the motor i can see some, albeit it little, movement on the transom. I really dont have much knowledge but had a thought that maybe the top cap could be whats moving? If anyone could give me insight to this and give me a ball park of what kind of repair bill this could be to lessen the shock im probably going to receive i would be thankful. Happy to answer any questions you might have that could help you with my questions.

Thanks

Take a big plastic handled screwdriver. Tap the handle around your transom, especially the mounting bolts. Dry and good will have a nice knock, wet and damaged will be a dull thud.

Have you ever tightened the bolts? If not, you prob need to re-seal them when you re-tighten them. That boat seems really new to have transoms issues, but who knows now a days.

Some good responses so far.
Only thing I would add is look for "stress" cracking at the bends of the glass. i.e. bottom, sides, corners, inside and out

Pretty sure 2005 Skeeter used a composite transom, would be very surprised if it was bad. Most people never check the JP bolts and they do tend to loosen up some and many times they chip the gel coat at the upper sides of the JP.

Thank you all for the responses! I will double check all the bolts and reseal them, admittedly it may have been 18months since i tightened them down and they just didnt come to mind when i saw some play. What would be the next step if i do find stress cracks? I assume glass shop?

This should be a good lesson for everyone.
Have you resealed your transom in the last five years? No? Better step to it.

And the "composite" "no rot" is a lie. Water intrusion will delaminate any material, and it will self destruct. Seen more than a few.
