So I have a couple of Shimano reels from the 90s that need some work. One is a really nice Chronarch 100 bantam, and the other is a Curado. I wonder how much it would cost to fix them, if i should just buy new reels, or spend the time to get parts and fix them myself. I have a new Abu Garcia Pro Max that was 80 bucks and it's pretty nice so far, so technology may have come far enough to just get new ones. The Chronarch just needs parts when the cast button has come off, but the Curado seems to have too much friction when casting, even when everything is loosened up.

If it were me, I'd get them repaired.
I'd take an older Curado over a new promax every time.
The Abu's are fine but mine didn't last one year before becoming noisy. I gave it away.

There are plenty of repair videos on YouTube. Order some ceramic bearings and DIY.

Big John does a great job of reel repair, cleaning and tuning in Weatherford. I am a satisfied customer.

Iā€™d like to know someone close to
Do reel repair. Reel cleaning does nothing for me. New drag washers is the stuff.
