Don’t have access to a boat, but we have some bank access to the Brazos close by to my house and I’m sure there are some gar and catfish to pull outta here... I’ve seen and heard a bunch of fish jumping, I believe it was mullet? And seen some shad as well.
There’s a good amount of current flowing through the area so I was wondering what rig y’all would recommend to fish off the bank? I was thinking sliding sinker or Carolina rig but feel like I don’t have a big enough sliding weight to keep me on the bottom? Also what pound test line is recommended on my leader?
All in all a day by the water seeing wildlife is nice and relaxing so I don’t mind not catching anything, but tips and advice would greatly be appreciated!
Google “no roll weights” and use the lightest you can get away with to keep it where you want. Probably have to trial and error so get the ones that have an eye so you can use a sinker slider and quickly change weights.
Sounds good. Theoretically tho, the purpose of a sliding sinker with the no roll weight is so fish can take line through the weight without feeling the resistance right? So wouldn't it not matter if we went too heavy on the sinker? It'd just hold the line on the bottom but setting the drag loose would still allow for the fish to take line through the weight right?
I use a 3/4 oz egg sinker with a split shot about a foot above the hook. I throw it out and let the current take it till it stops. It will get hung up more often but I catch fish on the roll. My reel is usually a 6500 Abu on a 6.6 mh ugly stick. I throw cut bait and worms most of the time. There are lots of bluegill in the Brazos and you can catch them for bait with worms. You should also catch bass. I normally use 25 lb test line, but I have test line up to 80 if needed. Good luck and let us know how you do.
