Wanna try drift fishing. What’s the best set up? Bait and how you rigging it? Only gonna go out when it’s not very windy. No drift sock.

Main line, sinker slider (drift weights on slider, I use homemade), bead or bumper, Swivel, leader line, circle hook. About 5 to 6 inches above hook put a pegged float like this Floats here
That way hook stays off bottom, weight drags. The drift weights are pretty dang free

Ok so In a way kinda like a Carolina rig but with a float to keep hook off the bottom. Thanks

Very Productive if you target the right areas, using a Santee Cooper rig with a drifting weight, and cut shad.

I know you say you don't want to go out when it is windy, but those are my best catching days. I do a lot of fishing on those dead calm days ,but not a lot of cleaning it seems. LOL

A bad day of fishing is still a great day

I've had several guides tell me, if its a great day for boating, its not so great for fishing.

Dude, the wind is your best friend when drifting! Dead calm days you won't catch anything.

You can use a 5 gallon bucket or more tied off the bow to keep the bow into the wind . Pretty minimal cost while you gain experience .

The 54” socks from Lindy work good for small and medium sized boats and are cheap. If you have a big bay boat or a pontoon you’ll want bigger socks like the 78” socks from Bass Pro.

10 mph gets em going and is easy to fish...15 mph is hammer time and requires a lot more skill to maintain boat control and hit your targets...20mph can be epic but is very difficult to maintain boat control and should only be done by experienced anglers. I fish up to 25 mph wind but it’s not easy. My best days of fishing are usually on days where I’m the only boat on the lake...
