To avoid the boat traffic, I fished from midnight to 4 am. I am paying for it today, but that south wind was pretty stiff and it stacked the fish up on the wind blown points. Found them on the shallow side of the break Poles would go down as the boat drifted from 30 to 15 feet. That was the hot zone. Conditions were right for a big one, but all I caught was a fish fry. Lots of 2 and 3 pounders. Big fish of the day was 8 pounds. I will be doing CPR for a while [Linked Image]

Nice work cheers Night fishing is the way to go this time of year. It’s become very difficult to fish mornings on Lewisville this time of year anyway. I get swarmed by sandbass fisherman as soon as I set up on a drift run. Cool weather in our forecast should kick off the fall pattern and run most of those yahoos off the water. Fishing is about to get real good with the cooler weather approaching this week!

If I could have anchored I could have caught more. Couldn't hold the boat but just repeated drift over and over. They were stacked in one spot. I need to get some kind of anchor system. The mushroom anchor doesn't cut it in the wind.

I know they are not cheap, but a trolling motor with a spot lock feature is the way to go. I bit the bullet this year and bought one. Now the only anchor I use is the stern one to keep the back end from fish tailing in the wind. Here are two we caught on a short trip Saturday morning below Guntersville Dam. Never tossed an anchor and never moved off our spot for three hours. The water release from the dam was around 22k per second. Nice easy current to fish in.

A 29 and a 23.

Nice fish. thumb When it is windy, I have an anchor for the bow and stern. It holds better and keeps your baits still on the bottom.
