Anyone have any luck at Aquilla? The wife likes to "sit and wait" fish.

Hackberry creek area is usually pretty good. Trees everywhere in the lake. Me and wife usually do pretty good out there. There are some good gizard shad in that lake for bait.

Saw lots of balls of shad the last time we were there, but it was hot. They were all deep, like 14 to 18 foot of water, out in 25 plus. I tried all the shallower areas, and was only able to net a couple. Have yet to catch a channel cat there, but did catch some very nice blues 5 to 10 lbs, out drifting over the hump in the middle straight out from the Old School ramp. Also there is a brush pile , around the corner to the right when you hit open water off that same ramp, in about 16 foot of water, that was holding some smaller good blues 2-3 lbs. we were trying to catch crappie on it, and caught several blues.

I go in the morning when the sun comes up. Go to some shallow water preferably in a cove, or creek inlet. Muddy smooth bottom. 2' to abut 4' deep. For Gizzard shad. Threadfin, you have to find the baitballs in the more open water. But, there will be some of those in the shallows also.

Hitting Aquilla in the morning to try some free drifting for blues. I caught some perch /bluegill .and hopefully I can net some shad ..taking chicken breast just in case.
I am going to try the hump mentioned above. I am sure i will do some crappie jigging too

Me and my son went out last night for a little while and it was dead still. so we sat in the seats you sit in while you're running and remote controlled the trolling motor going about 1/2 a mile an hour. caught three keeper channels fairly quick on shrimp.
