Ive heard of the famous Hell Pet rig, even used it a few times but have never really caught anything on it. My brother swears by it. Ive used it trolling around points on RC, Whitney, Tawakoni but to no luck. Is there a specific time of year or place to use it where it works better? Also is it mostly used to target stripers? Thanks

This is the time of year for it. I would prefer using a big slab spoon if you find fish trolling. I only troll to find fish and catch while looking. My 2cent.

Appreciate the input buddy! Might spend a little time tomorrow trolling and see if I can find them that way.

You use it once the thermocline sets up in the summer, once turnover happens in the fall put it away

Years ago when my son was young we could plan a fish fry in advance of using the Hell Pet rig off Finger Point on Tawakoni. About anywhere from Finger Point and each direction from there loaded the boat. After that trolling got boring and we quit.

Use rod holders unless you are a gorilla. Watch the rod tips--a double tap -- bump bump -- and reel them in.

I fish RC and I use the Hell Pet try fishing pelican Island, Furguson point on the east side, 309 islands (be careful as the contour comes up fast and the timber), and over by the spill way. I do not put the weight on my Hell pet as it will dive down to 30 + feet depending on how much line you let out. With this rig I have caught sand bass, hybrid, crappie, large mouth bass and cat fish. There have been times when I could not locate any fish surfacing or on any of my usual humps using the hell pet I would catch my limit. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for all the advice! I got a couple rigged up with deep divers, little George’s and spinners for tomorrow morning bright and early. Gonna try McCowan flats and around the island just south of it. Got on a good top water school today right up on the boat ramp. [Linked Image]
