I am planning on leaving Tuesday Sept.8th for 3 weeks of fishing northern New Mexico, as well as southern, and western Colorado. Driving up from Waller county, and going to fish the Chama below El Vado on 151, then the Chama below Heron, and the Chama again Fs121 Insertion point. Leave there and hit Los Pinos at Trujillo and above, then on to the Conejos. Stay 2 days fishing Platoro Reservoir and area, then on to the East San Juan above Pagosa. I want to spend a day or so around the Cochetopa Dome area, before driving on up to the Grand Mesa. Plan is to fish the Mesa for 8 days mostly camping out. Thinking of camping on the Gunnison South River Road for 2 or 3 nights then daily driving up to the mesa. Nothing etched in stone, and I am traveling alone so I can adjust accordingly. I’ll probably miss you but plan to fish the South Platte River down around the Deckers, CO area on the 13th. I might get to fish another day or two, not sure yet. I fished yesterday and scared myself to death after getting caught in some strong current and got carried down the river a little ways. Wear your wading belt! I had mine on and think it helped.

Funny you should mention strong flow. I am to understand that most stream flows were well below normal, at least the areas that I checked. I am hoping to see enough water to fish in the areas that are on my list. I have word that most of the Mesa Lakes are drained way down, or even dry. Flow is low low and lower!!!!! I hope you have your hunting skills highly tuned. As this is what it’s going to be mostly like. gin clear low water you have to get as deep as you can and for smaller water systems the fish are going to be 100% up underneath Cutbanks! Absolutely make sure you are watching where your shadow falls on the water and fish upstream they will see you in a mile away if you try to work down on them. The streamer bite should start picking up but I would find the biggest water that you feel comfortable fishing and have access to and fish deep with Nymphs anf a sinking line and streamers. Also with all this Covid [censored] evidently a ton of people decided to just disappear up there all of those fish have been hammered it will require stealth and tenacity but there are fish to be caught.I can promise you this if you are trying to fish dries to a site fish if you splash the water at all with a faulty cast you might as well move on to the next pool! I know I know I haven’t been on here in a long time I will work on some type of post here shortly finally got my password reset have not been able to login and I have just been lurking. I was just up there a couple of weeks ago a lot by the way. Good luck I hope you do well look forward to seeing some pictures. I think with that much time you should be able to get into a good streamer bite on The larger rivers. Big Browns should be on the attack. Also Lot send me a PM if you’re interested I’ve got a very good stretch of the los Pinos that you definitely need to hit that is public but off the beaten path and there are definitely some quality fish in that stretch.

Just got back from the South Platte River, flows were very high and fishing was tough!
