I'm taking my family camping at Fairfield State Park next weekend and we're going to bring the boat. I've never been to the lake before so any help would be appreciated. Any general tips to help us get a few bites. I'll have my 5 year old with me, she doesn't care if it's bass, crappie, whatever she just likes to catch fish. Also, are there any hazards to be aware of in the lake? I know it's small.

There are plenty of panfish in Fairfield, and catfish. The only hazards are the trees in the 2 large coves on the southwest and south part of the lake. If you put in at the "A" ramp, these two coves are just to your left and around the first corner to the right. If you out in at the "A" ramp, the open water to the NE is safe all the way to the dam.

There are very nice bass but they are few and far between, for me.

There is LOTS of hydrilla, but you will see it at the water's surface.

We have been fishing Fairfield lately and catching some good bass on top water early and then flipping a creature bait between the grass and the reeds on the bank, the holes are small but you can catch some this way. Also by throwing a double fluke rig over the submerged grass and catch some also.
Lake in good shape and plenty of grass as stated before.
