One of the main drawbacks is the number of guides and the fact that they are all double-foot guides (more wrap and epoxy). That adds additional weight to the rod. It also stiffens the blank and dampens the action to some degree.

Bought one back in the 90's. So underwhelmed I don't even remember who made it.

Wasn't there a rod that the line fed through the rod blank. I thought it was sure to be the future of fishing about 20 years ago

Yes there was. I think Shimano offered it to the USA market. Both Daiwa and Shimano still offer those rods but they are mainly for saltwater use. Nothing available here in the States as far as I know.

Had one for awhile , it did not have micros, or the smaller guides. It casted bout the same in my opinion. But I have not bought another one, and I don't have that rod anymore. did not see enough difference in it to get another 1.

I have a couple nano technology spiral wrapped rods used for jigging offshore. I like them for that use but don't see how they would be much better for bass fishing.

I have one and like everything positives and negatives. The positive is in the hook set. If you've ever noticed your rod wanting to twist when you set the hook. The wrapped rod doesn't twist because the line pulls on the eyes like a spinning rod. On a conventional bait caster the line pulls on the eyes but it has a hard stop when it hits the rod which IMO creates the twist. The line on the wrapped rod never hits the rod and thus never creates a twist in your hand when setting the hook.

I had a Daiwa rod that had the line through the center of the rod. It came with a wire cable with a loop on the end and you used it to thread your fishing line through the rod. Just think of all the friction the line would have on it as you are fighting a fish. I have no idea whatever happened to that rod. That was a very long time ago.
