Much noise in the media of late about starting schools back up. This has lead me to wonder about substitute teachers...
Often they are retired teachers and therefore older.
They work only a couple of days each month...just a few hundreds of dollars.
Would you take that risk for a small sum of money? Not me...

As a former teacher for 28 years and wife for 33, neither of us is even entertaining the thought.

My wife is a retired teacher and loves to sub. She had already done 7 days this year, she usually tries to do 2 to 3 days a week unless we have other plans. She only does 1st thru 3rd grade though and she is still in her 50's. No way I could do what she does, and she will not do the older kids for the reason others have listed.

Out here and I think in the state a teaching certificate is not needed to be a short term substitute teacher. I know in our schools If you have a high school diploma you can sign up to be a sub. Most of our subs are younger to middle age.

$75.00 a day to be gaged with hyenas seems inadequate.

Depends on where you are but if in a large, urban ISD...hell to the no. My wife is a teacher and they have quite a few young subs this year since college courses almost all are exclusively online. Kids in education departments need the observation hours anyway and can get approval to sub.
