Looking to go next week down to the coast. I usually go kayaking out of sportsman road in Galveston bay area. Any one know if that is still good post hurricane for flounders , trout and reds?

I am open to other places too within about 6 hours of DFW. Will use pop and cork live shimp and berkley mullets on jig heads.

Any advice is appreciated.
Justin.

Put in at Charlies between Port O Connor and Seadrift, miles of grass flats in shoalwater bay, easy in and out. Same time from DFW as Galveston. People don't believe it, but it's true.

Can you give me a google map of where that is? I will be in yaks. How is the water right now post hurricane? Any particular fake baits and live?

No storm impact.
Charlie’s is halfway between Seadrift and POC on hwy 185. It’s on a protected stretch of the intercostal with access into shoalwater bay. Miles of grass flats and potholes without needing to navigate a big bay.
Lots of rooms in ether town.

hmmm. From dfw to Galveston is roughly 5 hours. To POC its roughly 6 hours. But i think POC fishes better than galveston IMO so the extra hour might be worth.

Charlies = Charlie's Bait Camp (Google it near POC)

If you want to explore San Luis Pass more, you can put in at Treasure Island (used to be called KOA: https://rb.gy/tndwa0). From there you got a good couple of miles of shoreline that's adjacent to deep, moving water. You can fish north, up the West shoreline of West Bay into Chocolate Bayou. You can also run Cold Pass into Christmas Bay.

There's also a good launch on Follet's Island, off of Dolphin Dr. (not sure what the neighborhood is called): https://rb.gy/w9uihz. From there, go west and fish Arcadia Reef (you can find the deep channels on Google Maps).

It’s a optical illusion.
I am home in Seadrift from Dallas in five hours. 35 to Waco, grab 77 south to Victoria then 185 to Seadrift.
Going through Houston is a wild guess. Could be easy or could be a two hour torture.

Far less stress than dealing with I45 nutballs. Especially this year.

@atx_ben Not trying to be a smarta. I think the boat launch is actually called San Luis Pass ( Brazoria County Park). We fish there a lot . Good fishing and some areas are protected from wind. Not much traffic on weekdays. Trick for Kayaks and boats is that there are a lot of sand bars just under high tide. Looks like a lot of water but it is only lanes deep enough for boats. Some slow down, some don't. If its crowded boats will usually run on plane, you may think they could move over but it is really a sand bar a few yards away.
County park has free boat ramp, cabins for rent and RV spaces. Nice place.

Ahh yeah -- it used to be called KOA a long time ago. Things change faster than I learn new names smile Aracdia reef is still arcadia reef, though, as far as I can tell! The old route for the intracoastal waterway ran between rattlesnake point and Arcadia reef, used to be solid for reds and flounder.
