I think I'm going to get the F250 Tremor with the 7.3 gas engine. That motor was designed for longevity and hauling. Get the same mileage as a Tundra, maybe better. None of the Diesel BS. one of the owners has a tremor, awesome truck. not sure what engine he has.

Current Tundras with the 5.7 will tow a 23 foot Airstream just fine all over. I tow a 27 foot Nash. Airstream are some of the easiest towing trailers on the market. Towing the Nash I get about 8 to 9 mpg. With any bumper pull and Tundra it's recommended to get a good weight distribution system and size it properly. I use the Equalizer.
The fuel question doesn't make sense to compare for a $60K plus vehicle. If you get a bigger truck it will be easier to upgrade to a 5th wheel.

I don't know anybody getting 500k miles on new diesels from any of the big three without major repairs. Not even close to that really. Most construction companies have switched to 3/4 ton gassers because the diesels are so expensive to maintain. That Tundra is a pretty stout truck. Unless you are towing very long distances it will be fine for such a small trailer.

I love my Tundra, but to do what you described, I would look at the torque numbers and then go buy a F250 diesel and never look back. I believe it would be the best choice for you. Same here. 2015 TRD Pro Tundra and it’s a beast for boats and normal stuff. Towing a travel trailer I’d look for something else. A coworker just bought a 2020 F350 Monday. It looks pretty bad [censored] and it’s pre rigged for a 5th wheel. Only problem? It’s $1100 a month!!! For a truck!!

The weight on the Airstream is 4,800 lbs and the hitch weight is around 450 lbs. Same weight as my Champ. Tundra tows it just fine. Of course the TT will have more wind resistance. Get on the Tundra forum and check out what people are towing.

I have known a few that got 500k out of theirs before a rebuild was needed and most of those were just a basic re ring rebuild.

The Airstream Flying Cloud 23 footer weighs 4806 and is sprung for a max of 6k.
Any half ton would do and you can make some improvements to one by adding air bags. If I was going the half ton route I would consider a longer wheelbase as an advantage and maybe lower rear gears, depending on the make. The Toy should haul this trailer without a problem.
I'd buy gas for no more than 15k pulled miles per year. If I did more than that I would consider a diesel.

Even though the Tundra is the least capable 1/2 ton on the market it will still tow a 24' Airstream just fine.

one of the first things I did when I got the f150 was put 500# air bag overloads on, huge difference in ride quality and load carrying.

I sold Airstreams and you should pull a 23 airstream fine and get better overall mileage. The 250 just give you more capability but not gas mileage.

Fuel mileage won't make the difference in cost. But, that F250 will manhandle the trailer better than any 1/2 ton can.
