Today was windy on the lake starting early. I passed two schools of white bass, evident by the birds. Some usual structure and brush didn't turn up anything with a rattle-trap or a shaky-head/Googans combo. I went back into the State Park nook. Nothing by the pier. Headed out at the mouth of the nook I threw the shaky head in the rocks at the bottom of the bluff on the right. Slow......slow..... drag across the bottom. The line got tight but the rod did not transmit a hit. However when the line turned direction I knew there was a fish with my Googan in his mouth. A swift, fast lift of the rod hooked the first largemouth of the day - about a 2 pounder. 15-more minutes there did not produce. I went towards the middle of the lake across from the park nook. There is a "Z" shaped staircase on the bank and if you know where that is you can find a drop-off with electronics a hundred plus yards out from it. I threw a different line and heavier weight with a Berkley twist tail worm on the top of the ledge. I eased it down and back up again. The bass were hitting it on the way up my side. Three little guys. It got slow and hot plus real windy out in the middle. I headed to the rocks to the right of the buoy line by the power station. Back to my lighter weight with the Googan straight worm. Wham... I good solid "take it and run" and a hook-set that was as if I was trying to break the rod. This one took drag, jumped a few times and tried to dive deep. It was nearly 5-minutes before I got him to the boat since I was playing him real cautious so I didn't break him off - I was by myself. He went into the live well because I couldn't find my scale but I knew one was in the truck. When I got back my Dad was done "napping" and he helped get the boat on the trailer. I found the scale and weighed her. 5 lbs 7 ounces. I think this is my best LCC largemouth. Anyway, she went back in to get even bigger for somebody else.
