My rig is a 2020 Old Town Predator PDL, and I run a Humminbird Helix 7 with SI

It's 100% worth it!!

I literally JUST released a video about installing all of my electronics, if you'd like to step up your game! grin

I can’t view it on my iPad.

It would be really easy to make a DIY transducer for a kayak using a Ram ball and some PVC fittings. For ideas on how it would work, Google "PoleDucer" . I have a Livescope set up on a poleducer on my bass boat. It could be made much smaller for a kayak and probably only about 2' long and will not need to rotate like Livescope. Would also be able to raise it out of the water to prevent damage in shallow water.

I plan to make one for my kayak using the Helix 7 SI that I took off my bass boat when I upgraded to a Helix 10".

Only concern I have is how much battery power the Helix 7 SI requires.

Hey,

Kayak fishing is amazing experience.

Using Garmin Striker 4 since 2 years with a external waterproof battery pack. Working well with no problem. It's a great under $100 and fit under my budget. Every penny worth. You must try it out.

Also talking about the Side Imaging it's always better but expensive. will not fit everyone budget.

I'm running a Lowrance Hook Reveal 9 with side scan and chirp and absolutely love all functions esp the live mapping. Running that on my Hobie PA14 360.
Incredible for bass fishing and around the jetties at Port A.

I’m about to sell a Lowrance Hook2 7 with Navionics chip if you’re interested.

I have a Lowrance Hook2 4X that was a bday present. I have not used it yet but it looks to have everything I would want or need in a GPS fish finder I'll be using a scupper mount for the transducer. The scuppers are aligned within a 3" hollow on each side of my hull so to snag or damage the transducer I'd have to almost be trying to wreck it. Fortunately I am not as adventurous or hard on my equipment as I used to be. So it should be fine. Everyone has likes and desires. In my case..... I don't need all the bells and whistles. Receiving it as a bday present made it the most affordable fish finder I have ever used LOL!!!! Your mileage may vary.

What size battery does that unit need to get you through the day?

You get out of it what you put into it!

No doubt, I'd get a Helix 7 Mega DI. SI if you decide to get side imaging.

Mr. Ford, I would be interested, but this thread was made at the beginning of the year and I just received a Navionics chip in the mail today. I ended up going with the Lowrance Hook2 5, and I wish I’d gone with the 7” but I’m sticking with the five for now. And I just ordered the Navionics+ South chip and installed it this evening. I appreciate you offering and good luck with your sale.

I use a Nocqua 10Ah Lithium. I'm at half charge at around 8-9 hours.

That is a good idea . I like the 22 oz weight . On Amazon it has a nice little case to make it easier to handle . Thanks .

Yeah I run 2 of them. One for sonar/GPS and the other for my LED lights. They are super light weight and charge fast.
