Bought a brand new 2020 Tahoe 2150 in June and got about 5 hours on the motor when the trim decided to go out. Drove it to my nearest Bass Pro Service Center for them to work on it under warranty + add some optional items we wanted since it was in the shop. Warranty stuff was covered no problem and no cost to us. However, to add mounting hardware for a new chartplotter we bought + add a GPS module to our trolling motor + a couple other small items to look at for us. They had it in the shop 7-8 weeks. Just got a call that it was ready and the total is over $1000!!!

So basically... Learn how to do boat maintenance yourself and keep it out of the shop for any optional work!

GPS receiver is $200-$300 by itself and at rates around $100 an hour, it doesn’t take long to blow some $$$$. Just in case this is your first boat, you need to know what BOAT stands for.

Learn to do it yourself. Tons of good videos online. Same for vehicle repair.

Find someone to do it on the side. I'm sure you have a friend who has a friend etc.

dont understand folks that have work done then complain about the price if marine repair businesses were making a ton of money there would be one on every corner.

If there was one on every corner, they wouldn't be making a ton of money. That would drive prices down.

the reason there is not one on every corner it is a very hard business to stay in an make money that is why you will see them start up be in business a while an then they are gone.

Being as i just got going with mercury authorized sales and service.. and been with tohatsu for a while now.

i can tell you why the shop rates are so high. IT COSTS A SMALL FORTUNE TO BE A DEALER FOR THESE BOAT AND ENGINE LINES.

A man in Spanish Fort, AL fired more than 50 rounds into the BassPro Boat and ATV service center this weekend. I think he understands your pain.

Boats are like Strippers. They work until you quit throwing $100 bills at them.

This. There shouldn't be a surprise bill. Costs should be approved before wrenches are turned. If there are unforeseen expenses long the way, those should be communicated and approved before doing the work.

Sorry that you got "taken to the woodshed," that sucks.
