This past Thursday I unexpectedly caught my first flathead (yellow) catfish on a spinnerbait. It weighed over 5lbs! I caught my first blue catfish on a spinnerbait last month. It was also over 5lbs!

The flathead was sitting in shallow water right beside a private boat ramp. It is was almost dark. I had cast my spinnerbait into that same spot several times and thought I had gotten a bite before. I threw there again and felt like I had hooked something but with no fight. When I got it to the boat, it decided to fight. I had to reset my drag as it bolted under the boat. I was thrilled! I had never caught a flathead before. It is a strange looking fish.

I’ve never caught one on a lure by hear about it every year, I bet that was fun!

We were having fun. So surprised to catch another good catfish on a spinnerbait this summer. We bought a boat in April and have had surprisingly good early fishing success. My teenage son and I are having a great time and making memories together. Worth every penny!

Congrats!!! I have one follower who rod-n-reels for Yellows that said he quite wasting time, and only fishes for them now during my YC days (of Lynn's Catfish Calendar) and/or my PYC days (my learning of the Yellow's actual roam-feed circuit switch pattern). And he always uses a spoon.

Looking at my data, it seems your Thursday, was August 6th, which was the fifth of a 5 day YC run on the Calendar. The 4 sigs I use, such as YC for YellowCat means that is the one that runs the strongest for that day. It was also the second of a 2 day slot for my PYC days listing (the pattern that runs behind the scenes for a Yellow). Gator Gars also run the same pattern as Yellows but slightly earlier by a few hours. And I have Gator Gar students who have checked their data & logs and use the Calendar & PYC days.

And I must say, I know of several students, who are so far advanced, they are almost teachers in their own right (be it catfish (Yellows, Blues), or Gator Gars. I am proud of any who venture out enough to test the Catfish Calendar, and even more so of those who have learned to master it. It is they (all of them) who I see as heroes. They truly seek to succeed at the art of catfishing.

I caught a 4lb drum and a 1.5 channel cat on the same spinnerbait last night. I must be casting into a baited hole or something.

Caught another 4 or 5lb blue catfish last night on a spinnerbait! I've been fishing for bass. Can't hardly catch bass but catch everything else it seems.

I've caught 2 blues, 1 flathead and 1 channel catfish and a drum on a spinnerbait in the last 5 weeks.

I did catch a bass on a spinnerbait last night. It's getting where I am kinda surprised when I catch one.

They are all after the same food source. This time of year you can catch sandbass, hybrids, largemouth, blues, channels, flatheads, crappie, gar, and drum all in the same group. They are grouped up chasing Threadfin. We have another 3-4 weeks of this pattern before bait starts migrating north.
