We hit the water at 7am, and headed towards favorite pile. Pulled mostly keepers off of it ... 12' pile that fished from 6'-12' deep. Great run for a couple of hours but the bite stopped eventually and we headed to another. Pulled a few keepers off of it but a lot of dinks. It was a 6' deep pile. Later we got some keepers off another deeper pile 17'. Seems like most were right on the bottom there. Minnows worked better than jigs but a plastic chart jig pulled a few in.

Ended the day at 1pm with 30 between us. Majority caught before 930am. If anything we should have bounced a little more when the piles slowed down.

Good luck out there folks.

My first year really hitting Granger and I'm wondering what the crappie bite is in the fall. Would love to fish some 70-80 degree days, this heat wears you out.

Thanks for the great info everyone.

I bass fish and live about 15 minutes from Granger. Do you ever pick up any bass while crappie fishing?

Yes sir I got one yesterday but it was relatively small. Cpl whites too, a few baby cats and a goo. My buddy seems to be a specialist at catching whatever we aren't targeting.

We used minnows mostly. I added it to the OP but it was after you'd replied. Basically the 'world's greatest jig' rig I learned from a guy in Dallas on Ray Hubbard. Chum the heads and put the body on a jig hook. Good stuff. Feels weird killing a live minnow but works great.

First time I ever heard of it and used was while fishing with guide Lane Palmer. A few days ago a good friend of mines used the same technique and wore them out
