Good afternoon,
I moved to Texas back in 2004 and quickly gave up fishing because I found that it was necessary to have a boat. Life got in the way and I am finally able to get back to fishing. I purchased a canoe w/ trolling motor and hit the lake yesterday. It was one of those days that make you love/hate fishing.
Trolling motor died within 10 minutes, wind kept blowing me across the lake, so i spent more time rowing than fishing. I cast out a new lure, and the line snapped on cast (it had a kink in the line i didnt know about (braided line). I found the lure floating about 30 min later (yay), got nothing , not even a bite, and then had to row most of the way across the lake to get back to shore. It was still a good day fishing. (at least I didnt capsize or sink).
It is good to laugh about it. It was still a good day. I am now on the hunt for a good 3 - 5 hp gas motor and another trolling motor (one that doesnt belong in a museum), so I can spend time actually fishing instead of rowing.

Time on the water is the best drug. Keep at it, it will get better.

Practice makes perfect buddy. Trial & error will improve all your skills. Keep it simple too. Plenty of trolling motors out there used will push a canoe. Getting a gas motor with a trolling motor may be a bit too much weight.

I imagine that you went to Lake Gilmer. If not you should. Has some real decent fishing and some big bass to boot. Not real big so a canoe should work out just fine.

Remember this:
Although there are TONS of new Lures, Techniques, and Innovations since last time you wet a hook ...... the old tried and true methods work just as well as the new.
Keep up the time on the water, and don't forget to relax.
If anything, use some of the advice that you can pick up for free on the TFF, like Sharp Hooks, Line use, advice on where they're biting, and how. This Forum is still pretty good abut sharing info.
I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us. Hopper
