My Wife and I were talking today about road trips after we retire. First, we are going to take a trip without the boat. In this trip, we're are going to Grand Canyon, Yosemite, San Diego, and Big Bend National Park. After that, we will go on a trip with the boat to bucket list lakes. I know Lake Guntersville will be on that list.
What would be on your list? If you could include boat launching areas, I would greatly appreciate it. Some of lake are huge.
Thank you!

Man if you're headed out west to Grand Canyon, you need to stop at Lake Powell. That is one of the prettiest lakes I've ever seen. Decent fishing. Lake Dixon in San Diego has some giants. Just have to check when they are open. Not like our Texas lakes. Toho, Ocochobee, and Kissimmee in Florida are all awesome. But dang we have some awful good ones right here in Texas. Fork, Rayburn, Toledo Ben, Falcon. I think Rayburn has some of the prettiest state and national parks areas you'll ever find for camping if she likes to do that. Good luck and safe travels! Sounds like an awesome trip!

Lake Dixon??? Why would you send anyone there. That lake is dead water unless you're a swimbait slinger then you'll chunk and wind all day for one hit.
If you're wanting to fish SD lakes, go to San V, Diamond Valley, or Lower Otay. Hodges can be fun, but tough. If you're wanting to use a guide, I have a buddy that can put you on fish at Lake Skinner.
If I were to fish anywhere in CA, it would be the Delta or Lake Malones.
You also can't go wrong fishing the Colorado River between CA and AZ.
My bucket list lakes are as follows:
Spotted Magnum Bass = Lake Malones, CA
Smallmouth = Lake St. Claire, MI, Thousand Islands, NY
Largemouth = Delta, CA, Guntersville, AL, Pickwick, AL, Okeechobee, FL, and Falcon, TX.

Can't go wrong with any of the choices above.
I once relocated a guy from Texas to Alaska. He packed up a small RV with his essentials and a kayak. Drove straight North until he the Alaskan Hwy. Took him 2 months to make it to his destination. The adventure he had and the photos were simply amazing.

Sometimes state of mind is more important than location. I could have a great time anywhere; and on the other hand, I could show up at the most beautiful lake in the world to find 10000 jet skiers and not have as good a time
In Texas Caddo Amistad Falcon.

In our trip west, we will not be taking our boat. It is possible but unlikely that we will be fishing. We have been to Caddo, Falcon, Amistad, Toledo Bend and Big Sam. I would imagine that our Fishing Lakes Bucket List trip will be more to the east. Pickwick and Guntersville is on my list.

I've fished most of the lakes east of Texas, but after watching the MLF and FLW recently fish the Great Lakes region for fantastic smallmouth bass and the upper Mississippi River for both I'd start there. But the real late spring and summer seem to be the better times to visit those places.
