Hooked up with these guys again this time in Todd’s boat at Lake Tawakoni. We started at 7 AM and stopped at 2:30 PM with 131 white bass, 4 hybrids and a striper.

The details: Todd wanted to check the south end for hybrid action so we headed to Wolf Creek Humps, then Holiday Humps, then structures out from east side of dam and saw nothing. We headed back north up the east side and finally found some fish at Sun Point. Fish were reluctant to bite but we enticed the 4 hybrids, striper and 24 big whites almost all caught on #2 Mepps jerk-started low to the bottom. About 10 AM we decided to check out Cloud Point and Greenville Pump Station. Searching Cloud, we found some but they were being trolled, so we went on to Greenville. Saw a few and tried but only caught 2 whites there. So, off to the west side we went - checking Anchor Point, Finger Point and Figure 8 but nada.

We headed back to Cloud, but troller was still over the only fish we could see, so back to Sun Point we went. That was a good choice because we found more there than we had before and spent the rest of our time catching good-sized whites (many 14 to 16 inch) steadily. Pat hooked another big hybrid/striper but it broke off. We stopped at 2:30 PM still catching fish. Here are some pics of the trip:

Mepps Master caught majority of the fish doing #2. It was amazing to watch DC demos his technique and boats fish after fish. My last several trips to twok, the #4 mepps caught more fish than other lures. But today the fish were super finicky and do not want #4 and I am forced to cast #2 or watch the DC catching show LOL.

Working #2 is quite different and difficult imo than the #4 and it took me a good while to get it with DC coaching me. Thanks DC!

The trick is to get the light lure spinning as close to the bottom as possible, the longer the better. Once you achieve that, play with variable retrieve speed to see what fish want. 2 to 5 cranks, drop and repeat back to boat. Leave some line slack, jerk rod tip horizontally, as soon you feel the blade spins then reel.

Many of the boats we saw were trollling to catch a few. It was a sunny blue-bird sky day with little wind typically made for tuff catching but DC has been saying and teaching go do #2 and that was amazing to witness. An itsy bitsy lure catching BIG quality fish. I'll be dammed! flehan cheers

Great report Todd. Just proves what Dennis was pointing out in another thread, you don't have to troll to catch in the summer.
I'm with you Todd, I have trouble getting the #4 to work the way Dennis does let alone a #2.

Great report! I was there Friday also. Even in the same area that morning. I fished near the dam on the east side. The picture is Tawakoni on Friday morning. Calmest I've ever seen it. I'm dying to learn that mepps technique. I have very little confidence in it... probably because I'm doing it wrong. I did pretty good also. I was after stripers, hybrids, and blues. I tried some new drifting techniques with the autopilot on the trolling motor that worked well. Later in the day I found a channel cat hole with and endless bottom. Great day of fishing.

I was drifting a couple 5-6" shad on santee rigs behind the boat and 2 drop lines on smaller live shad. Kept it slow and at 20' and caught good fish throughout the day. I was surprised I never saw or ran into the sandies. I got several stripers over 20" and big blue of the day was 25" long.

Give us some intel with regard to Aglia #2, best color, feathers or not and maximum weight that is productive pinched above lure. Best distance between weight and lure . Thanking you all in advance for our help. Has a small egg sinker with swivel a good substitute for pinched weight ?
