Hello everyone, hate to ask this but what’s the best bait for reds on the Texas coast this time? I’ll be surf fishing, possibly off a pier too possibly, I’m from the north Texas area and very rarely get down to the coast, I’m gonna have 2 solid days of fishing and would like the best experience possible. Thank you.

Fresh mullet would be best and filter out some of the trash pecker fish but reds will eat just about anything.

Cut ladyfish is by far the best bait for the big ones. But it is a big secret, so don’t tell anybody. thumb

You should be able to catch the ladyfish with a gold spoon.

Cut square chunks of Ballyhoo and put your hook about 14-16" above the weight. Ladyfish are great also.

We love live mullet because reds, trout and flounder all love it. Carolina style.
