If this thread is posted in the wrong place please let me know where I can post it thanks and God Bless. Recently I have decided to quit buying fishing equipment made in China do to their releasing of covid-19 globally. Unfortunately I can not find any manufacturers who make baitcast or spinning reels in the USA???? If you know of any please share below. Thanks and God Bless

Not many. You can Google for some brands. I sure hope that one of the outcomes of the Covid-19 pandemic is giving less money to and being less dependent on nations that hate the United States and our values. It doesn't make sense. Maybe some companies will at least change their sourcing to countries more friendly to the United States. It is amazing how much fishing gear is made in China and Vietnam. I wrote one rod and reel company to ask them to change their sourcing. We need to not buy their Chinese made products and let them know why.

I don't know this guy from Adam, but he has some interesting older USA stuff: https://berinsontackle.com/product-category/1-reels/On the list at the right you can learn a lot about USA made Ocean City, Penn, Pflueger, etc. If you have the ability to do even light greasing and cleaning these reels will last a lifetime (they already did for someone else). I brought back my father's 1956 "Service" reel for Stripers (lube, update star drag washers, etc) - btw - don't assume any advertising is by my hand - that's Google (owns YouTube) and they support one party only:

Newells, no longer made, but available on EBAY. They have a "following", and are pricey. *&^%3 China Since this topic came up again I should add I now do know Berinson - purchased a 146 Squidder that arrived yesterday. They did me a favor - it was advertised as a "80%" reel, but is actually like new in every way. 146 is the narrow spool. The Squidder was distance casting king of the surf for about 60 years. Mine is from the 1940's (black casing). You see these on the beach all the time, but now as "Newell or Accurate, Tiburon" and more since they are easily modified into something else and a each Squidder can be modified into another model by simply changing the cross bars and spool. I'll try to post some pictures later. I decided to purchase one from Berinson instead of hoofing the flea markets (where I have seen them for $5-25). Penn killed these in 2006, when they shortened their models and switched manufacturing to China. Our flea markets are closed up so I simply bought one online. --- OK --- back (got called out for supper): Keep in mind all of these are Penn Squidders: This is a Tiburon: These are Accurate Conversions: This is a Newell: And on and on for Penn Senator - Jigmaster - and other reels. What you can do - get a base reel, order a kit (Accurate Conversion Kit For Penn Jigmaster for example) and do the conversion yourself (it's easy) or have someone do it. You want to convert a long spool 140 Squidder to a 146 - you go on eBay and look for a kit or the spacers and short spool you need. The difference between an American made Penn and a Chinese made Penn (pot metal): Penn USA VS Chinese (Dennis: 2nd Chance Tackle)What kind of distance can you get with one of these Squidders: over 200 yards reliably. After a couple plane crashes and a dislocated shoulder, I can still get 150. Why a conventional (or bait caster type) instead of spinning: more difficult answer - spinning will twist the line if you're dong a lot of fishing or a lot of casting, a heavy fish on can then pop the line. Every cast is usually slightly shorter with the spin cast, until the line is unwound or simply discarded, simply because of line twist. For fishing - a spinning reel is only as good as the roller that contacts the line - some are very good - and some not so good. A conventional/baitcaster by design doesn't twist line, it simply lays it in place on the spool. Hard use, light use - not affected. The good news is you can still buy fine American reels - simply takes a bit of research.

Avet reels are made in the USA. I have one on my lighter surf rod, and it'll cast a mile. It's a lever drag reel, which I'd never owned, but that I now love. Accurate (ref'd above) also make their own reels in the USA. Seigler (ref'd above) make their reels in the USA, they come with a lifetime warranty, but they're newer on the market. Penn makes the Senator series here, I think. For spinning reels, I think the Penn Torque is made here. Older Van Staals are as well. And I just learned about IRT reels ( https://irtreels.com/). All of these options are quite pricey.

If you decide to get one of the "take apart" (known because one lock screw is loosened and they come apart) at a flea market or somewhere for a few bucks and hot rod it into something unique, watch the 2nd Chance Tackle video below and you'll have it down for whatever you get (Squidder/Jigmaster/etc.). You can have a stunning product all your own (look at the "where to get parts thread here too) totally custom to your needs whatever they are. I do know Berringer has frames (other thread) since I'm mulling over the same type decision at the moment. PS: the guy above is Dennis - not me - and knows his stuff for sure. Good luck fishing!

Sixgill products, possibly?
I'm not positive, and trying to find a definitive answer is tough.
This showed up when I searched...
"All US parts will be produced in-house by Sixgill employees in Texas."
I have a couple Sixgill reels. I like them.

I have older Penn reels that were made in the good ol USA. In my opinion these reels were built to last forever. I recently dug one of my father's old ones up and took it apart, cleaned every part, lubed, and assembled the reel and it now closely looks and works like a new one out of the box. The only difference is this one was made in 1965. It does have a few scuffs but they hardly show. I was so impressed that I purchased 3 more from a gentleman that rebuilds old reels. He is thorough, lives in Texas, and treats the reels he works on the same way I do. I now have 4 surf, trolling, and bank rods that I know will hold up to everything I intend to throw at em. Penn #9, #109, & two #209s. I love em!!
