Honda recommends a 622 CCA (809 MCA) 64 AH @ 5 AH RATE 80 AH @ 20 AH RATE 27M6 starting battery for my 150 HP.

I had a 24 class battery that lasted 4 years until recently went bad.

I run a Helix 12, Garmin 93, hydraulic backplate and a powerpole off that battery and a MinnKotta on board charger for starting batt as well as 2 deep cycle batts for my TM.

I have plenty of room for a larger starting batt. I don't mind paying a little more for a larger starting batt.

These are the charging specs. 30 Amp (1000 RPM), 40 Amp (2000+ RPM)

Are there any downsides to going up in size?

I think I will stick to a wet cell traditional battery, are you recommending up sizing to a 31? Any downside to going bigger?

They are wetcell = AGM is maintenance free, other than charging them.

There's no downsize to going bigger in batteries other than weight / space. As long as you stick to 12V for 12V system on a boat. Your electronics consume a ton of power. The batteries above provide enough to manage that on a full day on the water.

Unless you've been stranded out on the water because of the battery, you don't appreciate the size factor.

I would purchase the largest and best battery that you can afford and fit in the space. They are like fuel ..... you can never have too much. But it's easy to have too little.

get a deka grp 24 and be happy for a long time.

great specs for a 24 and runs my 3 93sv plus, livescope, all the other normal boat stuff easily and is very price competitive, deka also makes the duracell agms.

Is four years long enough in your opinion? If you don't plan to change the way you fish get another.

A starting battery is made to start the engine then be brought back up to full charge. Drawing down a starting battery shortens its life more than a deep cycle or dual purpose battery.

Dual purpose has plates in between the thin plates used in starting batteries (more surface area) and the thick plates used in deep cycle batteries. If you fish hours on end and if you want to get the best bang for your buck, consider a dual purpose when you compare prices.

I'm asking about STARTING BATTERY those are deep cycle. From reading about batteries for starting that also have to power my electronics , it seems that drawing down the starting battery while fishing for 2 or 3 hours with electronics running draws the battery down , not good for that type battery. Are you suggesting those deep cycle batteries for starting battery since they also power the electronics and may get drawn down?

I switched to a group 31 deep cycle for my starting battery about 5 years ago. It has plenty of cranking amps and I never have to worry about it struggling at the end of the day. I can run the livewell and electronics all day and it cranks right up.

The Duracell AGM's are dual purpose. Can be used for starting and electronics. I've been using a group 27 for years now and 31's for my trolling motor. Holding up great and never left me stranded.

If you are out for serious battery then go with the X2, just make sure you go the 31 route regardless
