I am taking my old v bottom 12 foot jon boat to Corpus on the 23rd and plan to launch near Doc's seafood restaurant and do some fishing. I have been in same area with a guide before and we did pretty well. Plan is to fish in the canals after dark with some live bait. May also do some gigging in the area. I don't have a trolling motor so will have to anchor up in the canals to avoid touching docks and private property. Assume canals aren't too deep. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

i'd be wary of anchoring in a canal. i assume you'll be fishing the lights in the canal. if you snag someone's light with your anchor there will be hell to pay. i'd go ahead and invest in a small trolling motor and battery.

A solid push pole would work in the canals. Stealthy too. I'd have both if you can.

Returned from Corpus yesterday, great trip. Caught a couple of limits of trout and 4 red fish with 1 bull red. Used live shrimp for bait.

Headed to Corpus tomorrow for another round of fishing, also going to try and gig some flounder.

Trolling the canals at night is seriously underrated as a way to fill your ice chest.
