You are fishing stock tanks and people are outfitting you to win the Bassmasters Classic.
I would use a Gloomis 742 or 842. Light tip so you can cast your big and little plastics on them with big or little line. I prefer Daiwa so a Zillion is my fav reel.

You asked for “ideal” which means a lot of things to a lot of people. If someone were going to give me a gift and asked for the ideal Texas rig set up I’d ask for this: Dobyns Xtasy DRX 753C Shimano Antares HG 7.4:1 Seaguar 20lb InvisX 3/8 oz tungsten 4/0 Gammy offset round bend worm hook Bobber stoppers And I’d be really happy. Pretty similar to what I use with a couple tweaks. Dobyns Xtasy DRX 755C Shimano Curado K XG 8.5:1 Seaguar 20lb InvisX 3/8 oz tungsten 4/0 Gammy offset round bend worm hook Bobber stoppers Dobyns and “ideal”, “best”, should never be used in the same sentence. G-loomis and Power Tackle maybe. Get you a Power Tackle “one” 04 and a Metanium if money is no object! I'll give Dobyns credit for marketing, they have a heck of a following especially on Facebook. Have to say though for bottom contact they lack sensitivity. I have 2 Champion Extreme HP's. Fit / finish is excellent, balance is amazing, but compared to my Loomis IMX-Pro's which are priced comparably the sensitivity just isn't there. Fishing partner has an Extasy which is priced on par with the NRX. Not even a comparison. If you can show me where I can get the NRX's at $300.00 then I will give them a try.

I carry 3 Tx rig rods all the time/ G.Loomis NRX 854C JWR Shimano Chronarch MG 50, 30# Power Pro with 16# YoZuri Top Knot leader. Owner 4/0 straight shank, 1/2oz tungsten. G.Loomis IMX Pro 853CJ WR Shimano Bantam MGL, 14# YoZuri Top Knot, Owner 3/0 straight shank, 3/8oz pegged tungsten. Shimano Zodias 6'10" MH, Lew's LFS Left retrieve, 16# YoZuri Top Knot, Owner 3/0 straight shank, 5/16 oz pegged tungsten. If I had to narrow it down to one, I suppose it'd be the Zodias, Lew's combo. Not as sensitive as the NRX, reel's not as smooth as either of the Shimanos but it just seems to get the job done a little better than the pricier combos. IMHO the Shimano Zodias rods are the most under rated rods on the market. Mine is at the very least as sensitive as the IMX and probably more in line with GLX.

I've fished with NRX's for over ten years and they look awful. The finishes have mostly peeled off, even on the three year old. They have forever been my favorite rod. I like them better than my Steez rod and it was a pretty penny. However, I now have a few of the Xtasy rods and have to say they are equal to or better than the NRXs in my hands. The sensitivity is the best I've seen. They are my new favorite but I've been fishing them for less than a year so I'll know more as the years pass but I'd give them a slight edge in my book to the NRXs. When I'm paying that much for a rod I have high expectations and those two are my favorite to pick up when outfitting my favorite reels. POtato, PoTAto, I guess.

Step down to the IMX-Pro and the Extreme HP and both retail in the $350 range. I compared comparable rods at the same price point. Sorry if their not in the same league as your Zebco

Dang, for fishing a pond the $99 7MH BPS rod with a PQ 6:3 reel will get the job done just fine. You can usually buy that combo at the spring classic for $99. 15lb test big game or red label fluorocarbon will also work just fine. Pond fishing I fish weightless or the lightest weight I can cast with flukes, senkos, trick worms, etc...most of the time. I will throw a spinner bait or buzz bait as well and this set up will also do that just fine. You could have 5 or 6 of these set ups for what one of those other rods without the reels cost.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Question on the size of weight. Unless it's more than 15 fow, I've generally liked a lighter weight like 1/8 or at most 1/4 so it falls slower and falls slower on the twitch. What's the purpose in going 3/8 or 1/2 unless you're in deeper water and trying to get to bottom structure faster. Still learning so trying to learn from those more experienced.

Zebco 33, 6 foot medium heavy 2 piece rod, 8 lb Zebco Omniflex, 1/2 oz lead weight, Blue Fleck Powerbait worm.
That'll make the female bass' panties drop every time. Yep. The wife uses a 1968, I use a '56 and we pull the things in like crazy still. She's out pretty near every morning, I like to boat fish. We get the occasional striper, hybrid & white bass more often in the boat. How to pick a good quality Zebco year: I would change one thing - I'm still using the same "worn out" solid piece Ugly Stick after 45 years, though I did have to save it from death last month:
