Anybody have one of these and if so what do you think about it after installing and using it for awhile?
Did you use the transducer that came with it or buy a different one? I'm thinking of installing the transducer on my trolling motor.

GOD help you. I have two SOLIX 12's and I spend a lot of time cursing them. To me they are not user friendly or intuitive to use. I cannot even figure out the way to change the color of the tracks/trails so I can have different colors on different days of fishing. Good luck.

I have a Gen 1 Helix 12si and it has operated perfectly since I purchased it several years ago. Like all fishfinders it will NOT help you find fish unless you put in the time to learn how to operate the unit and exactly what it's telling you. I spent the first 6 months cursing my unit because I did not understand how it operated nor what it was telling me. I spent the following 6 months working with the unit and studying How To videos on various aspects of using it and interpreting the results.
I will add that every manufacturer is WAY behind in their development of user friendly devices. I keep hoping that Apple or Samsung will get into the business because they understand the customer interface and make user friendly devices the are intuitive to use. My Helix12si has 12 buttons not counting the scrolling pad. Just imagine if your SmartPhone had this many manual controls. I don't know about you but I just want to catch fish. Seems to me that with the amount money we spend on them and the huge amount of data these things are capturing it should be possible for the unit to literally target fish for us and say CAST HERE!

Helix units are a lot more plug and play then the Solix. I run a gen 2 solix 15 at the console and a helix 10 for mapping on the bow and love them. I will tell you to get transducer shield if you put the ducer on the trolling motor. The interface on the solix can be overwhelming at first but there are tons of videos online that will walk you through how to change your settings

I cannot even figure out the way to change the color of the tracks/trails so I can have different colors on different days of fishing. Good luck. Doing that is really simple, you go to the Nav Data menu, then Options, Tracks, and the Default Settings. You can choose the color (6 choices) and line style (6 choices). That will be your active track setting. You can edit the SAVED ones that you did not pre-choose the style/color, by selecting the individual tracks and change their color.

You asked about 12's but I have Helix 10's on mine. I mounted the SI transducer (the one that came with it) on my Ultrex with a Transducer Shield mount. I love it and if I were going to change I would go to the 12's. I am considering swapping to the Gen 3's so I can add a Mega 360 to it.

If you want user friendly go Garmin. If you want mega side imaging go Helix. I did a 2 hour trip with Capt Craig and learned a lot for $150 trip. Time on the water plus YouTube and you will master it for sure!
