 Using bamboo?

I haven't used bamboo before. For the folks who use it as attractors. Do you leave the leaves on or use the bare stalk? Thanks for any info.

Others may differ with me. But, there’s no way I am going to sit around pulling leaves off. Whatever is still on when they get dropped can work themselves off.
Again, some may take the time to shave the leaves off. Not me.

I have never used bamboo but I have numerous friends who do use it. They sink it green with the leaves on. Good luck.

I thought this thread was going to be about using Bamboo as a fishing pole to catch fat white perch!

Actually the leaves are important to the ecosystem the brush pile creates. I subscribe to the theory you should cut it green and sink it the same day it is cut as quickly as possible as to maintain the leaves. I either use bamboo or lake willow. Both will last a long time in the water. They will both keep their leaves longer than others as well. I also stand my piles straight up leaving enough water above it to allow the fish get above it.

This^^^^^. If you can cut it and cement it in a 5 gallon bucket and put it out in 3 days, that's ideal. Plankton begins to form on the leaves and begins pulling Shad. Bamboo will last about 3 years and will hold Crappie until nothing but the bucket is left. You can also put it in both sides of a cinder block, tie it off and drop it the same day in areas that are 8' deep or less. This goes really fast to build and put out.

Definitely leave the leaves on. Boo and willows are my favorite to sink. They both are easy to fish and hold fish. Boo lasts about a year, willows a couple years depending on how big.
