I live here. I will tell you what's wrong with it. The record back-to-back floods of 2015 & 2016 decimated the bass population. The Red River (now Dead River) is not a shell of what she once was. Many of the backwater lakes are also silted in and not accessible. An 8 pound bag will be a really good day. But, consider yourself lucky if you can find two 12" keepers...it's that bad. It was once my favorite fishery in this area.

If you've been here before, be careful running in areas you ran before, because it has changed.....A LOT.

I disagree cause there is still a ton of keeper fish in the river. Lots of size left also. The floods did hammer the river no doubt. But it will take a mid teens bag each day to win. We still catching good quality fish out there....

I'll agree with being careful running. Especially into areas that were open the last time y'all may have been here!!

But I disagree with it fishing horribly but it will be tough. The bass are still here, know of a couple 14 bags from the same boat recently! Granted she ain't what she was back before the floods but she's still got some fish!

Why does everyone have to complain about were the championship is? Iam just mad cause i didnt fish Champs this year. I love the river. I just cant believe people would fish all year and qualify for the championship and then not go cause its not on a lake of your choosing. Its all a even playing field. Wished i could be there. Also people saying it going to tear up equipment just be smart and dont run stuff if you dont know it.

Were those 14 pound bags during a 250 boat tourney after three days of practice?

Economics could come into play for some folks, also work could get in the way, not too many folks can take off for 4 or 5 days to go fish a bass tournament. I am not bashing the location, just was not going to fish unless it was much closer to DFW, I am sure the folks going will have a great time.

That was in June when it fishes tough. Kinda feel like this post belongs on BBC with everyone being upset. Thought there was fishing guys on here instead.

People will catch fish and good limits will come in. Now if people go sticking everything before the event in practice then that’s bad on there part. Red River will bring out the best and the team that wins will earn it.

Dax u can still come fish anytime. There some awesome spots that they put off limits that shouldn’t be. Now since half of port lake is off limits then McDade should too as it’s private waters like Cooleys is in Port Lake!
