Anyone have any theories on why colors like redbug, junebug, plum etc. work well in the summer? Does anyone have any success on these any other time of the year. Most other popular colors make sense to me imitating bluegill, shad or various stages of a crawfish shell cycle. But what in the world could bass be keying on that looks like a redbug worm? Only thing I can come up with is it's just one of those colors like pink or methiolate that bass just eat but why in the summer?

I think the red dirt/clay found in Texas tinges the water reddish purplish and many of the bait fish and craws take on some of these hues as a type of camouflage in the water.

That's an interesting take. That Mister Twister color is pretty sweet almost looks like it has some pink/orangeish hues in it. May have to pick some of those up.

In murky water, with light penetration, the green flake on a big red bug worm will stand out. It gives off a very translucent and natural look which is even better with a long wavy tail. June bug will shine for the same reasons with lower light levels on the same lakes. I don't think it is time of year near as much as time of day. Red bug till the sun goes down and June bug after. Do not use these colors on my lake though because only watermelon red works.

I choose a lighter, or darker color depending on the sky, bright or cloudy and the water color, clear, stained, or dirty then let the fish tell me which I can get the most bites on.

It moves. It fits in a fish’s mouth. It gets eaten. It’s that simple.
