Anyone have success with the Berkley Gulp products as substitute for live bait when catching panfish?

Which types/colors/sizes work best?

Thinking of stocking up on some as backup for those times when live bait is hard to come by.

You should get some great replies. As for me the Gulp Alive Worms, Brown in color work well.

try some and you won't be using live bait anymore. My only issue is I seem to always tip it over in the boat and it stains the carpet. Comes out when I get around to cleaning it though.

Bite...I use the Gulp Alive products almost exclusively. Have had great success with the 1" minnow & recently the cricket. All colors work well, but my personal favorites re the watermelon pearl & chartreuse shad. I know others who use the leeches & do real good as well. All fished on a drop shot rig.

Thanks to Vogey I have started to use the Gulp Alive Minnows. The Chartreuse Shad is my favorite. They are also good for crappie. I also love the Gulp Alive Leaches.

For the fish I target I do not use any of the Gulp Alive products. Based on what I have seen on the this forum the Gulp Alive Products catch a ton of fish. Vogey has been an Ambassador for the Gulp Alive Minnows and has caught top quality fish using them. If I was targeting Bluegill, crappie, etc. (Pan Fish). I would be using the Gulp Alive Minnows for sure.

Other than drop shot, are there any other effective ways to fish the Gulp baits?

Planning on throwing some Gulp worm equivalents on a small mosquito hook under a bobber and see what bites at the local lakes.

I fish the 1" Gulp Alive Minnows on a 1/64 oz jig head, either fished like a traditional swim jig or under a small float.

A few days ago I threw a small plastic out under a float, which i never do, and hooked a nice bluegill. It must've been a rare loner because I couldn't get any other action. I was working the bait under the cork enough to get the cork splashing around a little, and it made me think I may have spooked the other fish away. How do you fish your corked jig - still/suspended or do you work it under the cork?

BugEyez, I've never tried fishing anything other than the Gulp Alive Minnows under a float. I use a Trout Magnet float as a slip float. I'll cast to my spot and twitch the rod tip a few times, just enough to lift the minnow about two or three inches and let it sink again. If I don't get bit in a few seconds, I'll move it a foot and twitch again. If I don't get bit after moving it, I assume there are no fish there. I only fish it this way to target something that I think is holding fish (a brush pile, rock, log, etc.) This is the float I use-

I will give the slip bobber a try, it seems a little more friendly to using plastics than the ol' fixed bobber I had with me. I found myself without any earthworms but wanted to wet the hook so I put on a small plastic object that had been cluttering up my tackle box and tossed it out beneath the cork. I've never been sure what those pesky plastic things were for but a lot of fishermen seem to carry them around! A few cranks, then stop, a few cranks then stop, then bammo, fish on. After that the rest of his friends must've all packed up and left. Thanks for the reply!

I’ll add some kudos for the Gulp Alive 1” Minnow for perch. I will not go perch fishing without it.
I use it on a drop shot rig with a #6 Mosquito hook and a 1/8 oz sinker.

I swear by Berkley products. Started with them and will continue to use their products. You can't go wrong with their earthworms. It's easier to toss them in a bag rather than focus on trying to keep live ones alive.

Tried the 1inch minnow, gray, on a small jig head today for the first time. Bank fishing so I had it under a cork. I popped several nice fish inside of 30 mins. Before that I had a random plastic out there for about 20 mins with one fish! Conclusion: these things work! One thing I was not prepared for was that the bait gets gulped down by the fish each time. I had to put a new minnow on after each fish (no problem!) The bite was a lot like a natural bait; i.e. nibble, nibble, then gulped and running. I’d toss it out 25-30 feet or so with a half crank, wait 20 or so seconds, then a slow crank, let it settle, and i usually hit a fish with each cast.

I use 1/2 or 1/3 Berkley night crawlers threaded on a size 10 or 12 hook using a 6' ultralight fly rod and fish it like a small bead head nymph. Bluegills love it as do just about anything that swims in fresh water. I have caught a lot of small catfish on this rig while attempting to catch bluegills for catfish bait.in creeks & rivers. I even caught a 3" red tail minnow on this rig LOL!!!! That was a first for me.
