I would love to see a university say this, but it will never happen.

What a great attitude. Hey guys, we're gonna go ahead and do this because we need the TV money to pay for this 120,000k seat stadium expansion that was built for the players and fans that costs more than most of our academic buildings, xbox's in each locker stall that was added for the players, and a millionaire coach while you're getting worked like a dog to not have to pay our outrageous tuition rates and only get a piddly few thousand a semester to live on (I don't think you have seen how the college football players live at major universities), can't get a side job and can't make any money off your name that we're making 10's-100's of thousands on. Oh and you can't sue us if you get lung damage or whatever from a virus we're just going to ignore and expose you and all your teammates to. (better to send them home where they won't have an entire athletic department and state of the art medical and athletic facilities at their expense?) Oh and if you want to not do that, we're taking your scholarship away and there's no way you can afford tuition to this school without loans because most of you were probably hoping this football deal would help you claw your way out of poverty (are you assuming all college athletes come from poverty?) so enjoy starting your adult life in substantial dept that I'm sure you'll manage well from all the financial training you got from your underfunded high school and the basket weaving classes the athletic department enrolled you in to make sure you kept passing grades. (like the thousands of other students graduating with student debt?)

College athletics is a complete sham, especially in the top conferences that is due for a hard reset. And I think you're starting to see that ball roll with players realizing they can unite and just make demands or not play. I don't have a master solution to all problems but I think it starts with a player's union and legal representation for each athlete and probably a completely separate minor league where the top athletes (basically everyone that would have gone to top SEC schools) get paid a fair salary and have a direct route to the draft when they're deemed ready without the nonsense of pretending to be a student at these major colleges. One of these fledgling leagues, XFL or USFL whatevers could serve that role and give them some legitimacy to stay afloat.

What a limp wristed response.

I don't think the college athletic program is perfect, but I also don't think an 18 year old high school graduate is ready to go play in the NFL, XFL or what ever other league you want to make up. College gives players an opportunity to continue to develop and get a fantastic education at the same time. Take Germain Ifedi for example. He was a Construction Science student at A&M, got his degree and now plays for the Seahawks. He also worked on the Kyle Field renovation as an intern with Vaughn Construction... Seems like he worked way more than 40 hours a week on his education and still excelled on the field.

No one is forcing these players to play. They have the opportunity not to play. I think they should play, and based off the majority of player reactions I have seen online, they want to play too. But hey, I get it, Orange man bad. Am I right?

Folks who thought there could be a safe football season were wishing on an unrealistic star.

I’ve been watching Finebaum this afternoon, and even the guys who’s jobs are dependent on college football are pessimistic that there will be a season.

I'm betting in the end they will all cancel til the spring.
I know players, coach's and fans will want them to play. But 1 kid dies from Covid it will be a massive lawsuit and the school won't win,

How will coaches on their final contract years be treated?
If schools all back out, there is likely to be backlash in all directions. From fans, coaches, students, student athletes. What reason does a big school cheerleader or marching band member have to dish out tuition?

Right now, it is not guaranteed you get worker's comp. The kid would have to prove they got it from school. Doctors are having issues proving they got it from work. I doubt the school will have much liability. Public schools will have wiggle room for sure, else there would be no schools anywhere open.
