To be safe and avoid any confusion, unless it's a dealer and they are required to collect the taxes, just pay the taxes in Texas when you register the boat. And as Jim said above: Call TPWD for certain clarification. And you didn't ask, but download the forms you need (one for the engine and one for the boat) and print them off. You'll need the seller's signature on both of them. You'll also need a DETAILED bill of sale signed by both parties. I'm going to register mine tomorrow and just talked with them last week. But I bought mine here in Texas so the sales tax wasn't an issue. I paid it here. As for the 30 day limit ...... It was 41 days since the date of the purchase and there wasn't a problem. Healed by Grace and trying to stay that way

I only paid taxes in Texas. 6.25% was the rate. Be sure if you buy a boat with a trailer that you get a separate bill of sale if possible. It makes it easier. David
